Agreed. I like him but can't really see him being good enough to be a starting CM for us given the personelle we currently have, let alone who we may choose to bring in.

Certaily good enough to be in our current squad. I would have him ahead of Capoue and Paulinho any day, and on the whole i think he offers more than Stambouli and Dembele. Whether we will upgrade to the point where he becomes unnecessary is a moot point, but given our recent transfer history you would not bank on it.

If he has the option to be a regular first teamer for Swansea or 5th choice for us then he might want the former.

I think we'll sell. Looks like we've signed Ali and we still have some very promising youth players coming through. Not everyone can make it.

I don't see any reason to consider Carroll and Mason differently. Both have slight body-frames. But both have shown the ability to be positive in possession, make quick passes, hold their own in tackles. I think Carroll won't be sold and will be given opportunities next season to show that he can make a similar jump to the one that Mason has made this season.

Seems a lot of people have targeted CM as a position to upgrade this summer - if that is true, and we bring in a CM, then Carroll will be sold. As it is today, he would be behind Bentaleb, Mason, Stambouli, and Dembele/Paulinho. Next year, if we brought someone in, and move Paulinho, he is still no better than 5th, and I'd rather develop Alli than Carroll.

The important thing is that you have to compare apples to apples. I would put Carroll in the box-to-box CM category (with Mason and Dembélé from your list) and Stambouli and Bentaleb in the CDM category. Remains to be seen what category Alli will fall into, though from all the reports I've seen, he'll probably be in there with Mason/Dembélé. So really he's one of four players competing for that spot (assuming we play a 4-2-3-1). Even if we bring someone else in, I think that it would be worthwhile to see what he could do training with our first team, subbing and playing in cup games.

Not to mention the fact that he might be able to spell Eriksen in the 10 position on occasion.

I also think he'll be sold. We're in kind of a Livermore situation with him. He's good enough to play at this level and probably be a squad player for us, but I don't think he has as high of a ceiling as some of the players coming up behind him (Bentaleb + Mason + Alli), so there's a bit of a logjam (is that word used in British english?). If we can get 5-6m for him we should be very glad.

We're at the point now where our Academy is being so successful that we have to make tough decisions to sell players so we can keep the flow going, and they're going to be players that we might regret selling later on. It's just the nature of the beast.

Strangely while a lot of people aren't convinced by Carroll and think for some reason he can't hack the PL which is what he is doing at the moment, he would actually offer something none of our other players can. Like you said he has those simlarities to Mason but still a lot of our CMs are quite similar. People really underrate Carroll's passing ability and would be the only player we have who specialises in pinging balls about in the deep lying playmaker role. Then next closest is Mason but he also very box to box. Think the fact he offers something different and can play in the PL is enough to give him a chance next season.

Tom will not make at the club, to be fair he is not even good enough for first team football in PL. Dele is like 4 years younger and even a better prospect.. Tom hasn't been a regular he has played like 4 games in a row now, just because Swans hade several players away like Ki, Britton, Shelvey, Sigurdson etc..

I find it telling that people have seen Mason's/ Kane improvement under Poch but somehow feel Carroll is past improvement/will not improve under Poch. Tom is probably watching Spurs games with excitement knowing that 4 of his academy teammates are playing in the PL and thriving. I am sure given the opportunity to work under Poch (and with Mason/Nabil/Kane etc) he'll perform and improve. He'll be a much better player from the loan and will have the drive and hunger to come back to Spurs and fight for a place.

How many times has Tom gone on loan? 5? 6? He hasn't been brilliant in any of them, far from even good enough. Turning 23 soon asewell just give me a reason why he should be given a new chance.

Mason wasn't brilliant in any of his loans. From what i've seen of Carroll in a Spurs shirt, he deserves another chance to break into the side. Certainly more so than several of our midfielders.

Did you create an account just to slag off Tom Carroll?

No but i don't like that hype, some comparing him to Jack Wilshere for example you just omg are you drunk? Tom hasn't done anything yet and if he would be that good that your guys are saying he wouldt been out on loan for the fifth time. If we get 5 million for him just take the money and say goodbye and hope that he will comeback one day.

Comparing him to Wilshire? Mason to Wilshire at best but Carrols a completely different type of player. Quick sharp passing but it requires the guys in front to make the space for it to work.

Your right though. Carrol will probably never make it. But surely Mason looking like he will never make it out of league one gives us reason not to give up on him to soon.

So he's 22 and had a few loans without pulling up too many trees, as it where. That's no reason to write him off. If he'd been in and around our first team for a couple of seasons and made 50 odd appearances we'd be in a position to judge better. As it stands were judging him on playing for a different team with different players around him.

A lad named Kane is 21 and had a few loans without pulling up too many trees. Then we gave him a chance...

(But don't listen to me, I'm biased) ;)

Well I know but Kanes spells were all Miles better and its one player in a million who do ok in the lower leauges the randomly starts to dominate the PL. When It goes rumours about Real Madrid your something special. Kane is class and Carroll is beyond average.

He struggled at Leicester, Mason Struggled in the championship and wasn't setting the world alight in League one unlike Pritchard.
Livermore never had a good loan in the championship yet did very well in the Premier League
