Hudd is a Unique player, no one else in the team can pass the ball like him. Very few can in the country.

Always been a fan.

As a substitute yes but starting ?

Yes he is a starting man. We need someone that can pass the ball with great tempo. non of Parker or Dembele are able to do that. I think the mix with Tom and Dembele can be great give the Lad a chance.

Love him. Was awesome today! To start, he needs to play with Holtby and Dembele, it's a lovely balance and Holby impressed me the way he hunted the ball down.

COYS!

How good is he? He's been with us 7 years, he's 26 and he isn't a first team regular. When I suggested some months back that he was worth 10 million, people were saying he was worth half that.

I think he is only useful if we need a goal. I still think he is slow and not useful at the back, but if you don't have ideas to crack a defense bring him on.

Wouldn't make him to a hero after three good cameos, but it is positive to see that he can offer something.

I remember his beautiful, metronomic passing during the last champions-league-attaining season. Thud and Luka were the heartbeat of our team.

I would confess that I gave up a little on him earlier this season when he had a very poor run of games, however, I always hoped it was down to his long injury absence. He has proved over the past handful of games that the quality is still there and we have been crying out for it. Wonderful cameo again - welcome back, Thud!

he's had a torrid time with injury!.. under redknapp if he was fit he played & those games with he & modric in tandem showed his absolute quality... enough about him today & v everton to show he's still worth keeping!.. horses for courses!.. & there still aint many better passers of the ball in the premiership.

cant run!, to fat!, hundredstone!!.. can pick a pass though!.

well played son..

I hate todays fans.

It's just the way it is sometimes mate. I've heard and given Defoe stick before but I love him today and then the hate will come when he's offside 60 times in a game and shoots and the ball lands just wide of the goal post at Hackney Marsh

The usual suspects won't comment much on today's performance I bet :)

Zactly!

Huddlestone would receive the ball with one touch, give it the next. Was fluid. Real football.

Parker would receive the ball, turn, turn again, run down a blind alley, lose the ball, kill the move and momentum.

I'm not claiming Huddlestone to be something he's not but what he definitely can do is get the ball to our best players with a pass. And we need our best players on the ball as much as possible between now and the end of the season!

I thought Parker had an excellent game today, and that, likewise Hudd was excellent when he came on. It just goes to show that modern football is so fluid there are few players who can excel in every situation. It's stating the obvious of course, but we tend to forget that the tactics and quality on the day of the opposition hugely influence how effective any team's players and tactics are. At half time I was thinking that our pressing game was better than City's but that they had a little more threat and creativity when they got free in the last third. Thus we needed to somehow squeeze a little more openness and creativity from the game. The problem with that of course is that you give the opposition more freedom, and I'm not sure I would have liked to have seen that for a full 90 mins. The subs did the trick and somehow that extra creativity did arrive, but Hudd was nearly caught out early on. That foul where he drew the yellow, had the city player got away, might have led to quite a shift in momentum and even led to a goal. I'm glad we have a good number of midfielders in the squad, and it seems to me that we have a manager capable of making good use of them. Back to Parker, I actually thought his composure on the ball, forward runs and energy were top notch today, a good example being his forward run onto Bale's pass which led to a FK on the edge of the area, and one or two of his pirouettes almost had City players falling over. As for Hudd, I agree with all the positive comments regarding his passing - he brought something to the table we didn;t previously have.

no its not mate!.. fans are different today at the lane!.. I like many don't go no more because of the fickle ****s that seem to infect the place nowadays.. cant remember the amount of times in my last season I got into it with day pass fans around me.
wrong thread for this.. sorry but has to be said.

This whole post is spot on. When you have players such as Bale, with that quality and threat, they need to be released quickly in order to have space to do their damage - a lot of the time anyway.

Hudd does this, he's slow in presence a lot of the time but actually quick in mind, its not just about having good technique with time and space. Its about reading the game, on the ball with him, and being able to see what to do and using his technique to do it.

In a 4-3-3 we'll see the very best of him, convinced by that, and what an asset his passing range will be.

I was honestly falling asleep, and pulling my hair out, before the changes were made today. It was such slow, unimaginative football totally devoid of any real craft and purpose.

Right I'm not defending that Parker doesn't have a lot of times when he doesn't move the ball as quick as he should do, he is guilty on frequent occasions.

But for the good words Hudd deserves today, this wasn't as simple as Parker off, Hudd on. If anything the change of formation was as key, maybe more. For 60 mins we were a shapeless mess. I wouldn't be surprised of Sigurdsson gets read the riot act tonight for example, the amount of times he ignored AVB's instructions to hold his station rather than just constantly head infield. Dempsey on the other side was bad. Ignoring the pro's/con's of both players, Parker was in a team that had no shape and no one to spread it to, Hudd (and Holtby) came into a team with more balance, options out wide for a start, but also fullbacks getting forward more as we went for an equaliser plus Defoe looking to get in over the top.

That makes a hell of a difference.

Yes, but the balance of the three would of been better with Huddlestone in there than Parker. On the ball we simply would of moved it better.
