Total squad overhaul - questions to be resolved

As a few others have indicated, I'm actually very concerned that we are ripping the very heart and soul our of a carefully nurtured squad.

Last season, we were pretty close to our goal and personally I think that keeping our key players and improving in a few areas (strikers in particular), players like Sandro, Kaboul and Adebayor regaining fitness and form I think we would have been a real force in the coming season.

My concern is the time that it all takes to bed down a completely overhauled team. What happens if we fall short next season and we have a squad full of overpaid, dissatisfied, mercenaries with declining value? We could really be in trouble.

Last season Bale's second half of season genius papered over all the cracks. We're gonna have the best squad we've ever had. Just watch.

Some of the reshaping of the squad depends on AVB's preferred tactic for next season. If he sticks with 4-2-3-1 it will have a different personnel requirement than if we switch to 4-3-3...Lots of people seem to be assuming were going to switch to 433 but haven't seen much evidence of that in the pre-season matches. That being said i haven't seen much of them...!
It'll be 4-3-3, that's where he's had all of his success.

Either way i reckon were looking pretty healthy. No need to rip up a squad that was so effective in amassing points last season. If Bale goes replace him with a world class equivalent if possible but no need to spend for the sake of it...

IMO, we're not too far away from a really good squad with depth. Just the few players in bold required.

I'll be seriously worried if Walkers is out for any period of time, I'd go as far as to say Kaboul is a bettet right fullback than Naughton.

With all the current injuries, Walker might have a game or two at CB.... time will tell :cautious:

No fan of the idea of a total squad overhaul. Wouldn't want to shift other players than Livermore, Adebayor, BAE and Thudd.

Cannot see the sense in dreaming of a starting eleven containing 5-6 new players. This is a squad game, and group dynamics and mentality are important. The Spurs team of 2012/2013 is the most resilient Spurs team in my time as a supporter and I can't see the need for a total squad renovation.

Because mentally the current group have shown that they consistently fall short. They aren't mentally strong enough. Take Bale out of the equation and we would have finished outside the top 6.

I'm really looking forward to seeing our newly assembled squad playing together. I'm still worried by the lack of obvious creativity although we may be more creative as a result of more threats on the pitch (Soldado, Chadli and Paulinho all have good goalscoring potential) that we end up with more space and more options for goalscoring outlet.

We obviously need another centre back now and a LB. Other than that I'd be fairly happy going in without a major overhaul.

Do we get to take Suarez out of Liverpool in this scenario? If so then no way would we have finished outside of the top 6.

I'd argue that 7th was being generous to us. Whilst I don't agree with some of the players listed for departure, Lennon for instance or his value, or the 35 million for a guy who has scored 10 goals, squad overhaul is taking place and is needed.

We have bottled the top 4 to many times now, the current crop show they don't have it mentally. Out with Gomes, Naughton, Rose, BAE (only becuase AVB obviously doesn't like him), Huddlestone, Parker, Townsend (loan). You could make a case for Carroll to go on loan to get some game time.

Caulker went to play football that's fair enough and Dempsey to raise cash. That's 9

Sigurdsson is a fish out of water at the moment.

What will happen?

Huddlestone will be to frightened to sign for anybody, Parker will dig his heels in and say I'm not leaving, nobody will pay Gomes's wages, nobody wants Naughton, Ade won't go to Besiktas while they are banned from Europe (30 Aug decision), Defoe won't go anywhere.

As ever we will have plenty of deadwood, a great first XI but not enough quality back up. Injuries and tiredness will be key to our season.

That squad is outrageous and the scary thing is it's entirely plausible.

Honestly, if all that happens - jizz... everywhere.

Richie, you left Gomes in and forgot Dempsey in your outs. Gomes really shouldn't be here when the window closes. He most likely will not play much, if at all.

Cheers. Oh look, a net spend of £51m... How much is Lewis supposed to have pumped in again?

Just wondering for people who watched the game against Espanyol, do people think Chadli could be the answer for the left side of our attack (assuming Bale stays/plays on the right)?

I think everyone acknowledges that we need a LB and probably a CB, but do we need another attacker if Bale stays? If we do we would have to be sure that players is better than the options we have which would probably mean a player worth over 15 million.

Feel uncomfortable with people suggesting moving Lennon on. The guy is still a constant threat - teams have to setup to counter his pace and we look worse when he doesn't play. I know Chadli may come into the side. But this does mean Lennon should be sold - he's more than paid for himself over the years given his transfer fee and performance. Bit disrespectful in my opinion. Definately not on my out list.
