I'm not worried about the changes at all! It was needed to push on and give a proper fight for a CL place. Caulker wanted to go so we struck a good deal. Dempsey wasn't going to be a starter so was right time to sell. The signings we have made...plus the additions to come are brilliant! Were looking like a very good team on paper with lots of options on the bench who wouldn't weaken our first 11.

I'd look for another LB, CB (if Capoue isn't really any good there) and a versatile forward who can play across the front 3. We only need 3 strikers now were playing 2 attacking wide men.

I like Lennon and always have but feel that he just doesn't offer the goal threat we need. Townsend might be an answer for goals but I haven't seen him enough to judge.

we have a bloody good team now..great options all over the pitch. Trim the fat...buy some extra class and no team will fancy playing us!

i don't remember either of those happening but ok.
Feb 1st - "We've approached this market very sensibly," the Tottenham manager told a press conference.
"I've said in our conversations that if (the Damiao bid) was going to go out of proportion, we would step out of it.
"We have made it public before that he is a player that we chase, but we couldn't agree on the full conditions so we've moved on."
Tottenham, who have a club partnership with Internacional, were expected to renew their interest in Damiao this summer, but Villas-Boas claims that is now unlikely.
"No I don't think (it will happen in the summer)," Villas-Boas said. "It's probably finished now."

I'm sure there is plenty on this forum on our chasing Damiao at the beginning of this window before we dropped interest, until the final day of the window of course when we'll put in a late bid.

Based on my guess work is it?

Why do you think Willian, who was so tired of Ukraine, shunned some top continental clubs to go to Anzhi?

The weather, the women, the booze, the nightlife?

Money.
It's a lot lower than £150k it's been posted in his thread by happyspur

I'm really looking forward to seeing our newly assembled squad playing together. I'm still worried by the lack of obvious creativity although we may be more creative as a result of more threats on the pitch (Soldado, Chadli and Paulinho all have good goalscoring potential) that we end up with more space and more options for goalscoring outlet.

We obviously need another centre back now and a LB. Other than that I'd be fairly happy going in without a major overhaul.

If we sign Capoue, we may risk going into the season with 3 CB's as he can cover there.

Anzhi was his only option as nobody else met the asking price.

Thought it might be useful to do a status check of where we are with the squad now :

Goalkeepers
Lloris, Freidel, Gomes

Gomes might still go (saving on wages) and we might bring in a goalkeeper to warm the bench. Still expecting that Archer will go on loan to a League 1 club.

Centre Backs
Dawson (H), Kaboul, Vertonghen

After Caulker's sale we are one short. Even if Capoe (Def mid, CB) signs, I suspect we buy another CB before the end of the TW rather than potentially rely on Fryers.

Full Backs
Walker, Naughton, Assou-Ekotto, Rose (H)

I'm still expecting Assou-Ekotto to be sold after not playing in pre-season. Replacement Contreau (RM ?), Blind (Ajax) ? Otherwise no further movement.

Midfield
Lots of versatile midfielders on the books now. I see them as :

Defensive - Sandro, Capoue (assuming he signs)
Box to Box - Paulhino, Dembele
Deep lying playmaker - Carroll
Attacking Mids - Bale (H), Chadli, Lennon (H), Townsend (H), Sigurdsson (H)
Utility - Holtby

Total - 11 midfielders (including Carroll still 20), which is enough to play 4231 and 433.

I see Huddlestone, Parker and Livermore leaving. Will we get in another creative midfielder (Lamela, Eriksson etc), not sure. AVB at Porto liked a strong powerful midfield (which we now have). If we bring someone like Lamela in, do we need Sigurdsson ?

Strikers
Soldado, Adebayor, Defoe (H)

I'm still expecting one of Adebayor and Defoe to leave if we can fiind a decent replacement.

Overall, I think we will have a squad of less than 25 (maybe 22), in part due to limited home grown players, and expect similar from the other top 6 clubs.

I'm loving the fact that we are trying to wipe any trace of Harry from our history. Only 1st teamers left are Kaboul Walker and Defoe?

Didn't Sandro arrive under Harry? Though think he said at the time he'd no idea who he was...

And he scrawled Verts, Dembele, Lloris, Siggs and Dempsey on the back of a fag packet he left in his desk, too, apparently...

Doesn't he also claim to be the man who turned Gareth Bale into the player he is now...

So it is Harry's fault Bale wants to leave for Real (apparently).... LETS BURN HIM!!!!! o_O

I think Harry helped him develop, but since AVB has been here, he has been even better.

IMO we need 5 more players for a title tilt:

LB

CB

AMC

AML/R

ST

That would leave us with lots of strength in depth, and versatile options

Go get them in, Uncle Frank! :)

Walker and Naughton count as home grown surely?

So your list would be 9 HG players and 14 non-HG players which is fine. We could sign another 3 non-HGs within the HG rules and would then just have to worry about the 25 man rule. Or keep Livermore and Hudd in the squad of course.

I can't see any problem with home grown players myself.
