Agree with Fitz entirely here also lennons work rate and defensive work was hugely underrated last year, offers something different around the outside and can keep defenders occupied, would be disappointed and about concerned if we let him go. Play could become very narrow.

Goalkeepers
Lloris

Gomes

Fullbacks
Walker
Naughton
Coentrão
Rose

Centre Backs
Kaboul
Vertonghen

Paulinho
Dembélé
Holtby
Sigurđsson
Carroll

Wide Forwards

That squad is outrageous and the scary thing is it's entirely plausible.

Ins
Paulinho £17m
Chadli £7m
Soldado £26m
Capoue £9m
Coentrão £13m
Alderweireld £7m
Willian £20m
Total: £99m

Outs
Gallas Free
Bentley Free
Caulker £9m
Dempsey £6m
Assou-Ekotto £6m
Parker £3m
Huddlestone £6m
Livermore £6m
Lennon £10m
Falqué £2m
Total: £48m

Honestly, if all that happens - jizz... everywhere.

Man City have had a £35 million bid for Willian turned down so there is no way we will pay that for him, we don't rate him above £20 million, if ITK is to be believed we don't think Alderweireld is good enough and have rejected him so you don't sign someone you reject for that reason. Fryers was bought as a back up full-back, there is no way Levy is going to pay him £20K a week to have a second season in the Development squad earning more than some 1st XI players so Rose or Naughton have to go.

1) No they haven't.
2) More recent ITK (update 246) suggests Toby remains very much an option.
3) Levy doesn't pick the team - last season showed AVB likes Naughton and pre-season has shown he prefers Rose at left-back.

I've read the Man City report about their bd being turned down which you clearly haven't. My point on the centre-back is if you identify a player as not good enough, why would you then want to go back in for him when his weakness still remains? Doesn't make any sense.
The only choice at left back at the moment is Naughton or Rose wth ITK saying AVB and the medical don't think Benny is fit when he does. Neither are good enough but you have to play someone there. Fryers has had to play centre-back and the club have already said he will be a part of the first team squad this season.

Feel uncomfortable with people suggesting moving Lennon on. The guy is still a constant threat - teams have to setup to counter his pace and we look worse when he doesn't play. I know Chadli may come into the side. But this does mean Lennon should be sold - he's more than paid for himself over the years given his transfer fee and performance. Bit disrespectful in my opinion. Definately not on my out list.

But what if selling Lennon gave us the budget to bring in a player like Willian without selling Bale? I think I would do it just because Bale staying would probably mean he plays on the right, which is where Lennon is most effective imo. I'm not sure if I think Lennon could work on the left, but I know Willian could, and would come in and improve our first team immediately. Thinking of a front 3 of Bale, Soldado, and Willian with our midfield behind them is enough to make me think that selling Lennon would be worth it, since we would get good money for him.

I don't like the idea of ripping the squad apart: Changes need to be gradual.

I'd stop at Capoue and a CB, and then try and sell Huddlestone and Parker. Adebayor too if he wants to go, but then we need another striker.

Lennon might fetch us £15m, whilst Willian would cost £30m and triple the wages.

As a few others have indicated, I'm actually very concerned that we are ripping the very heart and soul our of a carefully nurtured squad.

Last season, we were pretty close to our goal and personally I think that keeping our key players and improving in a few areas (strikers in particular), players like Sandro, Kaboul and Adebayor regaining fitness and form I think we would have been a real force in the coming season.

My concern is the time that it all takes to bed down a completely overhauled team. What happens if we fall short next season and we have a squad full of overpaid, dissatisfied, mercenaries with declining value? We could really be in trouble.

Well said mhl. Not to mention ripping the English core out of the squad. Didn't we used to pride ourselves on that? Our was that just a charade while we waited for the real cash to be tipped in?

I think we could get Willian for 25 million and definitely not triple the wages. How do you know what each player is on? I would imagine that Willian gets something like 50% more wages than Lennon. Lennon probably around 60-70, Willian 100-120. But that's a total guess in both cases.

Willian would be on around 150k I'd say, why else would he have gone to Anzhi?

Lennon probably 50k.

in:
eriksen 10m
bernard 21m
villa 5m

out:
dempsey 6m
lennon 12m+
defoe 7m

that's what i'd've done anyway. i was happy with caulker so was a bit disappointed to see him go, could've accepted it had chiriches come in but that one looks dead now. the above would've massively upgraded our attacking options and would've left us with money to fill out other areas of the squad as well.

Ok, we'll write willian off based on your guess work, who's next?

Based on my guess work is it?

Why do you think Willian, who was so tired of Ukraine, shunned some top continental clubs to go to Anzhi?

The weather, the women, the booze, the nightlife?

Money.

Do we really have to get into what constitutes a bid again!

They have not put anything in writing so therefore have not technically bid, but have had an offer turned down, so technically they are right. Perhaps the phrase they have had an offer turned down would be more accurate for you. Effectively it means the same thing though.

according to some tenuous press report? man city themselves have denied any interest in the player.
