I think as it stands now, we are a couple of players light but things were never all going to be fixed in one window.

Would be great to add another attacking option to the bench (on the basis Gil is going / isnt fully trusted yet) and in a dream world we'd add a Perisic'esque RWB as well. Someone like Carrasco could potentially solve both issues!

How's this possible when we've signed 7 players.
Because people's unaddressed areas are not Conte's unaddressed areas.

I think Conte would still like:
  • a Perisic equivalent for RWB; and
  • cover for Deki.
Conte's areas to address January/next summer will be one or maybe 2 CBs depending on how Lenglet gets on during the season (as maybe he becomes one of those CBs).

Ricarlison, Bissouma and Perisic all great additions and I’m hopeful Lenglet will prove to be quality.

Forster a good move. Spence and Udogie investments for the future.

So in effect we have upgraded Reggie, SB and Winks. The Squad was so thin that even after adding the new players it still leaves us still looking thin, club has done terrific early work but then reverted to normal service focusing on moving players out rather than addressing the remaining holes in the squad over the last month.

Think this is actually really unfair and not an accurate reflection of the market conditions faced. I don't think anyone thought we'd end up getting £1m in loan fees from Ndombele as our third highest out this Summer. Rodon, Winks, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Reggie - for a total of £1m? But we're saving at least something on their wages.

We were never going to drop £200m and then try and claw it back. We signed virtually everyone before doing any outs. We are not a mineral wealth club - we have to be sustainable to an extent. We also have to be sensible from both a team building perspective (and not do a Forest by buying pretty much an entire new first team and bench) and a progression perspective.

Someone just tweeted that the net spend in La Liga - for the whole league - is 55m euros. That league is in second place. In first place is the PL with £1.3bn.

That's insane.

I was being sarcastic.

I can't watch another 5 months of teams letting Emerson Royal have the ball cos they know he'll do fuck all with it. Or teammates not passing him the ball despite him being in space as they know he'll do fuck all with it. We're ridiculously lop-sided at WB at the moment. Did Doherty shag Conte's cat or something?

I think the squad is in a good, not great place as things stand. We've definitely improved as a squad, but not all the way there yet. Need Lucas to come back because I think being able to introduce Richarlison, Lucas, and then if needed, Gil makes the forward options look a lot better than current state. Hopefully Skipp can be introduced over the next few weeks because always having 3/4 midfielders plus Sarr is pretty good cover there! Same with Romero in the back.

The one note I will say is that we only need to go about two months before the WC break before the "next" window is basically upon us. A lot of matches, yes - but we can reassess then!

I really don't get what happened with Doc. Back end of last season he finally gets the nod after months of Emerson being poor and impressed everyone enough to keep the role. Now we start with Emerson again? People have made way too much of his apparent improvement. I wonder if we were trying to sell Doherty, and if so hopefully now he can be reintegrated or Spence can get some games. It's so frustrating when the ball goes to Royal knowing nothing will come of it.

Lack of creativity is a real worry in the squad.
Especially as Conte is seemingly in love Emerson, which basically rules out any creativity from our RWB side.
If he's not going to change formation, then he needs to change personnel to accommodate this.

If that’s accurate, it is bonkers, especially when you consider what Barca spent after mortgaging all their future revenues. Means the whole rest of the league would be 100-200 million of net inflows.

Does anyone recall the last time we signed a player in the last 48 hours of the window where it had not already been widely discussed as in negotiations in the media at this point?

maybe Sissoko? Can’t recall whether there had been any noise there. If not that, does it go all the way back to VdV?
Bentancur and Kulusevski. All the noise had been about Amrabat and Diaz.

Also, Emerson hadn’t been rumoured for long, we’d been looking at Tomiyasu all window.

I think the transfer window has been decent but it will be perceived by some as an average one because our rivals (mainly Arsenal) have strengthened really well and currently look very good. I am surprised that we didn't look to upgrade our rwb position this window.

Ultimately, we will know if it was a good window come the end of the season. I remember the summer when we signed Bale, reguillon, doherty etc, many perceived that as a great window at the time but the end result did not work out. Hopefully better luck this time around.

Looking down the player threads in the transfer forum it seems strange that everyone we're currently linked to is a forward of some variety/quality - the one area of the pitch where we seem to have fairly decent depth with Kane, Son, Deki, Richy, Moura and Gil.

Given how much we missed Bentancur yesterday and how average our two main RWBs were last season it's weird that there is no links at all to anyone in either of those positions.

A new CB would be higher up my priority list than another forward...

- Decent ball playing midfielder cover
- First choice RWB
- First choice CB
- Forward cover

...In that order

I don't think it's that, I think it's the fact that despite all the work we've done we're still two players short of a complete squad. I'm slightly unsure why we loaned out Rodon with a buy option if we then didn't bring in a player to replace him, I get that Lenglet has come in, but we needed one extra CB this window, not net the same number. I get the Rodon loan reasoning was most likely as he was non-HG, but not replacing him IMO has meant no real upgrade to our CBs this window. With our current lack of creativity this means we're relying heavily on our defensive game right now and an injury to Dier would really compromise that IMO.

Speaking of creativity, I do agree that Emerson isn't doing what we need on the right flank. I think he's perfect for those tougher games where we need a bit more defensive presence from our WBs, but we need more attack coming from that position. However we have Doherty and Spence, so i'm not worried about that from a squad perspective. What worries me far more is the inability to rotate Deki and what would happen should he get injured. We're one attacking player short right now, there's no getting around this.

So the window has been decent so far and probably ranks as an 8/10.

A 7.5/10 window for me. Great signings in Bissouma, Richy and Peresic. All three will start/rotate regularly in the first team.
Lengelet, Spence and Forster we just have to wait and see what happens, but much better depth. Udogie comes in next yr.
All the above done early, plenty of time for pre season and to get familiar with team and AC tactics.
However we failed in two areas we obviously tried to strengthen in at CH and RWB. Sanchez has deputized admirably in a defensive manner, but going the other way he still lacks the nous required, same can be said for Royal, who for all his improvement at the back he is way short of Peresic levels going forward.
We will need a bit of luck with regard to injuries , esp at the back and up front, with fixtures coming thick and fast.
Many of our rivals have strengthened as well, so AC will have to give us an edge with his experience as well.
Interesting season ahead and another Jan coup like the Bentancur and Kulu signings would be welcome to address areas we are light on.
Would upgrade this to an 8/10 window had we managed more sales than loans, hopefully those on loan do enough to earn a permanent move.

Was there any mention of Doherty leaving today? I thought he might have been a possible out as taking a non home grown space in a position with a few options?

Dodgy rumor of West Ham getting him on loan but it was seen as unlikely. Can't see it.

In effectively 12 months I think I’m right to say Paratici added:

Romero
Sarr
Gil
Emerson
Deki
Bentancur
Perisic
Bissouma
Richarlison
Lenglet
Spence
Forster
And Udogie to come,

Crucially we’ve also lost nobody we didn’t want to…. And Lloris and Son have signed extensions.

Think we’d have all loved Bastoni as well, but I have to say considering where we were, I’m really pleased with the progress we’ve made.

Not sure it’s realistic to expect much more just 10-12 months on from Nuno-ball and the mess we were in… especially as we’re not backed by a oil-rich nation state.

I’m very hopeful for this season ?

My only concern currently is the lack of options off the bench to add some impetus in attack. Richarlison is a step up from Moura & Bergwijn, he genuinely gives us any 3 from 4 to start.
With Gil out of favour, and Moura a bit inconsistent we are lacking game changers. I think someone like Traore who can terrorise defenders running at them, or maybe Malinovskyi who can shoot from distance, can offer us something to ask different questions in attack when trying to stretch teams, either would have just given us that bit more depth.
Other than that, this has been a really good window.
1. Experienced backup keeper, but homegrown.
2. Natural attacking threat from LWB.
3. Additional left footed CB to balance the back 3.
4. Technical and athletic CM option.
5. Genuine competitive option to push our front three without dropoff in quality.
6. Athletic young HG RWB with an attacking game.
7. Athletic young LWB with an attacking game to come in next year.
