I think it's brilliant. They come over in their thousands and add a lot of atmosphere, they support their team in a way that' seems strange to us for sure, but it's a different culture, each to their own. Plus they have massive sausages :cautious:

It would be interesting if I had any idea of what it was trying to tell me.

the interesting part is the section labeled 'xG' which is expected goals which are the chances that you would expect to be converted from the respective positions. Ours came out lower than BVBs. I would have expected our to be much higher. These came from 11tegen11 but here is another from Michael Caley that shows our higher.

Scary thing is they had at least 3 players making their club debut yesterday. When go away to them in November, they will be even better. But after yesterday we should be backing yourself to do well, especially if they play with same GK
Their other keeper is worse and old. Roman Burki is in his 2nd year @ BVB I think and not really an upgrade on Roman Weidenfeller who was shit.

The players of import that were missing for them were Barta @ CB, Schmelzer & Gurreiro @ LB, and Weigl @ CM. Reus is not counted on because he is always hurt. Gotze is what you saw in his cameo, not what his reputation is. Bartra would have still been beaten by all those counters as he is slow AF but he would have allowed them to back off and tempt us out. He distribution from deep is excellent. Schmelzer splits time with Gurreiro @ LB but I'm not sure either would have been more decisive than Toljan. The Yarmo-Pulisic wings looked more dangerous than the philip-pulisic pairing they fielded at the weekend.

Really can't remember other big chances than the Aubameyang shot after the corner. Anyone?

I always think of it as great atmosphere, but then see/hear it for 90 minutes and realise I'd forgotten about them after half hour. The droning has no relation to the game and it just gets boring imo

Agree. I could play saxophone solos through the speakers of the stadium and it would make as much sense as repetitive drumming.

If the drummer had been playing Phil Collins...it would have as much relation to the game.

It was a great result, no doubt but I won't get carried away - not just yet. I savour the win of course but well aware that Spurs could easily have lost the game if football was "fair".
This game shows the paradox of football, though. Spurs have played Chelski off the park almost every time they met lately but lost both the last 2 games against them. Spurs also outplayed Monaco a Wembley last year in the CL, but lost. This time Spurs were outplayed (37 % vs 63 % in possession) .... yet they won.
And for once Spurs had the ref on their side in key situations. If not, the result could have been different. Kane could easily have had a free-kick against him when he scored his first goal (although Sahin went down very easy) and it was a terrible decision by the linesman to cancel the goal of Aubameyang as it was not even a close off-side call really.
And don't forget that Bor. Dor. missed the following players: Durm, Bartra, Schmelzer, Guerreiro, Weigl, Rode, Reus, Schurrle.
Thus said, I am glad Poch have realised that attacking and ball possession is not always the way to win games and that Spurs seem more tactical shrewd this time around in the CL. Not being favourites - like last season in the CL (when by some Monaco was as a "easy" team to beat) - seem to have helped too.
PS! I big thanks to Ajax. Spurs have 4 former Ajax players: Jan, Toby, Sanchez and Eriksen.

Good shout. I was thinking of Bobby Smith who just bulldozed hi way past, or through, people

I've noticed a lot of write ups of the game insisting that Kane fouled Sahin in the build up to that goal, Sahin has basically admitted he dived to try and win a free kick;

"I could have hit the ball out of play but I was pretty sure he [Kane] was going to look for the contact. So I let myself fall as I felt contact and he [the referee] sadly didn’t give a foul."

They 2 players making his first start and one for them (Yarmalenko) had made a sub apps for them before, everyone else has had more game time in all comps for them than Davinson has for us and lets not forget Aurier made his first appearance for us.

Yes, one can argue that not all of them most probably would have started even when fully fit but most of them would have.

I disagree with almost all of this mate.
There's a massive difference between dominating possession and being 'played off the park', We played Everton off the park, BD did no such thing to us.
Why do you mention their disallowed goal, but no mention that the goal they scored had an offside ignored in the build up?
We also has key players missing, Rose, Wanyama, Dele.
They had a lot of the ball but did fuck all with it most of the time, when we got chances we were clynical....Hugo didn't really have that much to do.
You come across like the bitter BD fans did on twitter the other night....no offence.

Possibly 4 of them would have played IMO, but then again Rose, Wanyama and Lamela would have possibly played if not injured.

Edit: and of course Alli if not suspended.

This is exactly right Gb160 - For anyone looking to naysay our performance and big up Dortmund's night, I'd encourage them to look the 'Shots' stat. We had 13, they had 10. So f*ck the possession.

It was an accomplished performance from us, and I doubt very much that Dortmund were expecting us to play on the counter. Poch is a genius.
