Simple fact is that since the Wigan game, with the exception of thePeterborough game, we have been awful in front of goal. The goals to chances created ratio must be appaling since Wigan.
We can all go on and on about who had good or bad games, I see Jenas is getting a right kicking on here again ( I thought he was poor today), but until we start putting away more of the chances we create we will have more days like today.
You win games by scoring goals and we ain't scoring enough at present.

Well said. If Defoe or Crocuh think they are good enough for England then they are in cloud cuckoo land

Keane and Pav to start against Fulham please

Did i miss something? Save for the first 25 minutes i thought we were awful. Playing a third division team, we didn't control the game at all. The midfield was non existent and we played like headless chickens after that.
Modric was almost as bad as he was at Liverpool, flitting about but never seizing control. Typically he will have the ball near the area and pass it wide to Hutton or something. He needs to take more responsiblity and try and surge through and shoot.
As for Jenas, I'm just sick of watching him. Huge talent going to waste.

it was refreshing wasn't it:beer:

long balls stopped, and he (Pav) played some nice football, made intelligent runs rather being akward and falling over

That was the positive for me too. The team started playing with more cohesion, movement and style - which should have brought more success, but for the refereeing decision and lack of awareness from Bale on one or two occasions. The performances like that were the reason why I always preferred Pav over Crouch. Not guaranteed, but always more possibility of such team performances with Pav next to Defoe rathen than with Crouch or Keane.

Palacios also played very well breaking up Leeds' play and moving the ball on quickly enough, showing how we miss a proper defensive/solid midfielder when he is not playing.

Interesting to see today what happens when we alter our defensive approach and open things up. Hutton and Bale are clearly more comfortable attacking than defending and both got to the touch line on numerous occasions...our final ball /finishing did not reward the good work put in. A price we paid today for having those two in the back line was that we played a very square defensive line quite far up the pitch. This in some ways played into Leeds hands because although Beckford was virtually a sole front man he did have the movement and speed to get in behind Bassong and Dawson on numerous occasions. In such an open game where we were generally dominant it should not have mattered...the result would have been more reflective at 5-2 or 5-3. Had no problem with Harry playing Modric centrally but shouldn't it have been at the top of a diamond? The way it worked out Modric was often deeper than the athletic Jenas who I believe lacks defensive discipline in a four man midfield.
There are a few positives to come from the match. Dead men walking Pav and Hutton both did a good job today and their demise seems to have benn prematurely reported. Harry may now be slightly embarassed because we had not seen them for so long that their usefulness had been forgotten. No problem for me to keep playing Defoe.....you get what you see and generally that is an exiciting if somewhat narrow focussed attacker. Crouch to me is more of a problem.......he doesn't seem our best option as a starter but then it is up to Harry to now to pick a side for Fulham but I'd go for Pav and Defoe. With the injury to their American Dempsey I'm sure they'd like a close look at him:) I hope Huddlestone is fit for Fulham and can slot back in with Palacios.....that pairing provide the best balance in our midfield IMO.

Wow, how terribly sensible -- YOU'RE BANNED!!!

You make sense - not sure Harry is gonna give Pav a chance though.

Not been on here until now and no doubt many people have many theories as to how it went wrong and no doubt everyone but Gomes got the blame but to be honest Leeds worked hard, played hard but really didn’t create enough to deserve a draw.
Did anybody notice how our game changed completely and utterly when Crouch went off? Not one big hoof up the park to a target man, we got the ball down and started playing football, even Jenas looked a different player and quite honestly we out classed them.
Case proved with the attacking full backs giving us the width when Lennon is out, shame about the Penalty miss no doubt we’ll have a personnel change on that front now.
For the record their penalty was right in front of me and although Dawson goes to ground more often than not he did not foul the player, it was not a Pen and the ref was outside the box in a dead straight line behind them and could not have seen any foul even if there was one, the fact that he hesitated looked to the corner then gave the pen, I’m convinced that if the ball had gone flying into the crowd he’d have given a corner and had they not appealed for another false pen three minutes earlier he wouldn’t have given that one.

I cant believe some people are still considering playing Modric and Krankcar on the flanks! We saw against Hull and Liverpool that it just doesnt work!

Against Fulham id like to see Modric back on the Left for god sake... Something like this is think would be our best lineup:

Gomes
Corluka Dawson Bassong Bale
Hutton Palacios Huddlestone Modric
Defoe Pav

We need to stop digressing from the system that has worked so well for us recently. That means keep Modric on the Left and stop trying to accomodate both him and Kranjcar into the team. Best system over best players please Harry!!

I put Hutton as RM as i think he is most capable of taking on Lennon's role - getting to the by line and cutting balls back into the box.

Pav and Defoe to start!

The past week has been disappointing but what I find more disappointing is the abuse some players are getting. Keano, JJ, Modric, Defoe, Crouch, Daws have all taken a pasting on SC in the last week. If the attitude in WHL is like this towards the players on Tuesday it will be a great shame, now is the time they need a good atmosphere and positivity when things are going badly.

+1.

Last time we had this sort of problem, with the fans getting on players backs, we had a good atmosphere vc City at home. We need to get that going again on Tuesday night at the Lane. Let the players know we are behind them.

The atmosphere in this game was a disgrace. Our fans were dreadful and barely whimpered untill we went 2-1 up in what, the 75th minute? We need to get out of oru own arses and support the team.

Oh, and as for my opinion on the game. Delighted with Bale, no real issue with the goalie, delighted with Pavlyuchenko, Hutton did pretty well, everyone else ranged from poor to very poor (including Crouch, despite his goal).
