I was bricking it waching Lloris pull off save afer save as Liverpool missed gilt edged chance afer chance......

Liverpool created absolutely fuck all squared in that game.

They reminded me of Swansea last season - great passing but lttle end product.

don't people say that of Arsenal. I think it can be the down side of possession football, you so keen to keep the ball you forget the aim is to get it in the net

It can be levelled at us at times - especially at home.

Most passes for Liverpool? Martin Skyrtel.

3 of your back 4 had more passes that any Spurs player, more possession and less territory...funny that.

Hard to tell from those, I thought on one of the replays it looked like he was clipped, but that's from a Liverpool Tweet.

People keep going on about him going down too easily, but as can be seen the defender sticks out his leg after the ball is past him. This was clearly to bring Bale down and he duly obliged. He could have gone in front of Allen, who would then have tried to bring him down. Liverpool used that method to stop us playing through the middle. It was very cynical and disrupted our play when counter attacking as they had planned for the attacks to be via the wings.

I was at the other end so I thought we'd got away with the gerrard penalty but I've just seen it on football first and it was mo way a pen. Rogers is out of order, still I guess he's just playing to the pool fans cos he lost again.

That was not a dive - I've dug Gareth out for diving before but that was a foul.

Rogers is desperate!

He should have stuck to "played well, should have got something out of the game". The penalty calls were sad at best.

The thing about teams like Rodgers' Liverpool as Swansea is that they are so worried about losing possession that they don't shoot. You can see the difference this year with Laudrup's Swansea. I prefer keeping possession in our two thirds, but fast direct play in the final third. The high line concentrates that into the middle third. Once Kaboul, BAE and Parker are back we will be able to play that system.

Yep... possession is great, with it you can stop the opponents from having time to score and give yourself the chance to score yourself. That is the point. But possession is by and large useless without territory and at some point you have to run the risk of losing possession in order to create goal scoring chances.

The key there is to try and limit that to locations on the pitch where the opponents are unlikely going to cause immediate damage, i.e. their final 3rd so that the chance for you to recover is increased.

There is little point to dominating possession if you aren't going to threaten. At some point you have to add some directness, especially if you are 2-0 down. If it wasn't for the bizarre own goal then I doubt we would have seen Liverpool actually score, the odd good chance yes, but nothing else.

Liverpool should have kept Carrol. He isn't that great, but he would have offered options off the bench, the chance to lump it forward when wanting to add a different dimension to your play and in need of a proper aerial threat. Sure, you can get more cultured players, but loaning him out without having anyone in place has cost them, even more than us fecking about with the Adebayour situation.

Both Spurs and Liverpool will be looking for a shiny new striker come January and we have to be as high up the league as possible to make sure we can have a shot of attracting the caliber we need to stay up there.

Whilst Liverpool have "tradition" (oh an wages), they too will need some points pronto between now and Jan or they might struggle to get who they really need.

You can see hi foot change direction when its caught. Not even worth debating weather he was caught or not.

Why need we be so narrow in our thinkiing? A three man midfield is more what I was thinking (it's what AVB always went with before coming here afterall). Dempsey would be the one missing out. A well formed 433 has the potential to solve a lot of problems for us. Between Sandro, Dembele and Carroll we'd have a great balance.
Arent 99 percent of people on here crying out for 442 though? This season we have to play Ade and Defoe up top. I think Carroll is a good player, but i dont think he should play instead center mid for us if we want to finish in the top 4 this season. Play him in Europe, bring him on in games, and start him when we have injuries. His time will come

65% possession and created 5 chances, we had 35% and created 7. Liverpool just do a lot of pointless passing for no reason, they didn't really create many clear cut chances that I can think of. They just create a myth that they look threatening when they don't actually do anything. No wonder we just let them play

That said, I would love to hear what it is that you see that I don't that makes you think that Rodgers will achieve a lot.
In a very short period, Rodgers has completely changed their style of play. With generally inferior players to ours, they keep the ball better than we do and press it (and win it back) better than we do. They lack somebody with the quality to pick out a pass in the final third and a foil for Suarez, and if they had those they would be a top six team and looking up.

What Rodgers has achieved so far after the debacle of Dalglish is impressive and, as I said, if he had better tools to work with - and not at the Barcelona or Madrid levels - then they would be a genuine threat.

Hope he/she is okay.

Thank you mate. He has been released without charge on the most amazing trumped up charge I have ever witnessed. I am sorely tempted to write a thread on what happened. I am ashamed at what our police force did to an American on a visit over from the states to the lane.

Apologies as this is off topic.
