Eriksen has a free role really, like poch has said. He's never stuck out on the left all day tbf. That's why he needs a certain type of player around him to compensate when he goes on a wander.

Ah gotcha, you meant more with an eye towards the defensive side rather than offensively. Fair enough.

Maybe that would have worked. I think Eriksen would benefit the most from more strength in movement and flexibility from behind rather than "protection" per se, but I think an argument for the opposite is justified.

I thought they were shoes: I thunk there's a brand of shoes named Mephisto, which are quite pricey.

Wenger wont buy a midfielder in January. Would be very suprised if he buys anything tbh.

MS and Poch get on very well and he likes Poch's style of football.
The papers love a story and MS is a big one. arsenal fans would love a player like him! So journo's will always make it seem like there is other interest.
We have made our interest clear and Southampton are aware. As is he and his agent.
We do have money to spend but squad wages are an issue.
I'm sure I saw Trix on here somewhere say it's a lost cause and he's scum bound??

If that's not the case and we do stump up the readies that'd be amazing. No doubt he'd love to work with poch again, but I didn't think we'd be at the races financially.
Come on Levy you bald little baldy.

I think its time we played players where they feel inclined to play- to their strengths. Eriksen is class and provides great crossing from a wider position. He can play at 10, but he is really productive on the left. Kane is superb, great at pressing and supporting the midfield, holding up the ball and moving into the box at the right time, so works really well as a sheringham esque no 10.
Dembele can play further forward but his nature is to take responsibility. Watch him if he ever loses the ball, he never just leaves it. He is a ball playing cdm in the making.
I wish we would give him the chance to support mason in midfield.
The only real issue for me is who should play on the right, but Lamela is learning to track back and defend, so maybe we should just give him more time in the first 11.
Which means we're looking for a better no 9 who will work well with kane, maybe bony? Obviously ms if we can get him would be good too.

Mephistopheles? I'll have to Google that one. :)

It's a story about a man who sells his soul to the Devil. Mephistopheles is one of the Under-Demons who is in charge of the contract. Er...think Dan Levy...with wings :woot::woot::woot:

he's Spurs' new holding midfielder from what I can tell...

Nah...we have enough unwanted players who know how to keep hold of a contract :(

This thread is mostly about slagging our own players off. Every now and then something gets said about the match. but you will mostly read about how shit our players, coach and fans are.

So basically: in addition to our players being shit, our online support is shit as well.

I thought they might go for Cabaye - if there is any truth in his availability. But I'm sure his expected wage would be astronomical coming from PSG - so doubt we could afford him.

I understand the notion, but it's important to remember that playing each player in his most "productive" spot may not always be beneficial for the XI as a whole. For instance, if one player scores more goals in a position, but the team as a whole is less efficient against quality sides under such circumstances, it isn't always to general benefit and the goals for and against tallies aren't as favorable.

Sorry, but I don't agree. You're entitled to argue for playing players where they're not strongest, but I wouldn't.

I said "most productive," not strongest. Massive, massive difference.

Even so, are you of the belief that if each current player in any given squad plays where they are most productive, or even strongest, that the system will always work?

maybe we should've planned for it then, we knew who we were facing. as for why carrick wasn't marshalling eriksen so well late on, maybe it's because eriksen had moved to the left by that point? a position where carrick can't have him in his lap. also, this flexible three is another one i'm not sure works as well in reality as it does on paper, they don't all interchange positions, they just all migrate into the same area of the pitch making us awfully narrow and congested as a result. chadli, eriksen, lamela won't work, none of them can stretch the opposition, none of them can commit a defender, all want to pass and move inside a 20 yard square which is occupied by a dozen or more players. i still believe eriksen left, lennon right is the best combo we have, the everton game is the only performance i've seen this season where i've come away from it thinking poch has gotten his ideas across to the players.

I agree with a fair whack of this. That's why I keep calling for Lennon. Its not that Lennon is anything special before others gets their knickers in a knot but his pace will disrupt the opposition's shape and the other attackers will benefit from more space.

FFS. Do people realise that this is Mason's first season in the first team?
The manager is obviously going to stick with him. And quite right to. Top player in the making.

Yes! I am with you on this one. He has miss passes and he miss a sitter but his style and the brain of his play is refreshing.
He missed a pass, he tracked back. He miss a sitter but how many of our midfielders actually have the chance to miss a sitter?
He passes and follow up on the possibility of through ball.
He assist on marking and pressing in the middle.

This is his first season where he play in the first team and he is improving.

Maybe on fifa, mate. With rvp, rooney and falcao there you'd take out our DM, or send a CB upfront? At 0-0 even. Crazy.
Sheesh. Nothing to do with FIFA-all to do with the attitude of our manager.
Again no goals at home. Again 4-5-1. What is it 6 goals in 8 home games-it is unacceptable to me but not to a lot here in this thread who seem very content we did not score and are aghast at the thought of taking risks to score.

Entire team gave 100% effort.
I just want to highlight 1 negative :

We need better players at CM to challenge for top4. Every game this season against top sides, our CM couldnt impose & dominate games. Don't get me wrong - Mason, Nabil have been amazing this season - probably one of the reasons for our resurgence in recent weeks. But fact is they still not good enough - or probably need more time to develop.

Its not a coincidence we dont win against top quality oppositions in last 1.5 years.

In season we qualified for top4, Modric was extremely good - controlled & dominated in games. We need Mason, Nabil, Stam & Dembele to push to that next level.

We got to find our next Modric sooner to really push top sides.
