We didnt seem to win many headers in the middle of the park
or even put United under pressure from a high ball they seemed
to constantly out muscle us

Huge opportunity missed against the worst Utd. team I can remember at the Lane.
Lots of effort which was a positive but still vulnerable at the back and our attacking play remains
totally without appearance of forethought or shape.

Thought he got the subs just about right.

Maybe the right players on, but taking Lennon off was just strange. He was tracking back, offering genuine pace and generally looking lively, yet he takes him off and leaves the pretty ineffectual chadli on.

It was just another one of those "what game is he actually watching" moments, which is my biggest concern with avb.

Still it was a much better showing so let's take yah and move on with it.

I would be very surprised if utd did not finish above us come the end of season they probably won't win the league but they will be above us.

That is possible, maybe even likely, they may have lost Fergie but I get the impression they are putting a shedload of effort into their management and coaching to mitigate that loss.

What is the general consensus on the penalty call?

Nailed on?
Disgraceful decision?
I've seen them given?

Likewise, was there anything in the two penalty shouts from the Park Lane in the first half, when Soldado might have been bundled over while going for a cross from the right, quickly followed by a handball claim as the ball was crossed back in from the left?

in real time thought Hugo had got a hand to the ball. But in replays its the right decision.

Yeah he bought it a bit, but still would be mighty pissed if we hadnt been given a penalty given the same scenario.

Lennon hardly touched the ball 2nd half and looked uncomfortable, i think it was a sub of injury precaution, Chadli i thought put in a really good team performance, solid, tracked back well himself, seems he is the fashionable player to slate.

Played well. Fast powerful start, scored from a soft freekick. Played some of the best football of the season after the goal with Lennon causing a lot of problems and Paulinho playing well. They scored a freak goal from some shocking defending and the game was fairly even after that with United growing stronger and stronger towards the break. 2nd half Sandro scored a fucking screamer out of nowhere and they almost instantly got a soft pen that Sturridge 'won' off of Lloris. They were on top for a bit but we regained control and looked really good towards the end of the match. Sandro and Dembele were beasts in the middle all game. Walker brilliant apart from the massive fuck up for their 1st goal. Chiriches was excellent, Daws ok. Verts was very exposed to Valencias pace and almost all their threat came down that side. We need Rose back. Chadli was good in the first half linking up play but absent 2nd half and I don't think he deserved a starting spot over any of out other wide forwards. Paulinho played at 10 all game and was excellent first half playing some very nice footy, out of the game 2nd half though. Lennon was brilliant and really tried to get in behind united, we couldn't get him in to the game 2nd half though either. Soldado actually got played in on goal once but blasted it over and didn't contribute much beyond a few nice touches. Defoe looked sharp when he came on but didn't have many opportunities

i think we've found the exact spot from which to take all of our shots.

Chadli helped to protect Verts a lot today. Valencia is strong with pace; Chadli had the strength and persistence to negate his threat. Verts would have been in trouble if we had stuck Lamela there. Especially as Valencia has been in form recently.

Just great to see Dembele really make a play for his old self. Dynamic, driving, strong and wonderful to watch.

We really need a bigger pitch to utilise our power and pace and exploit teams by stretching them

Fair comments on MotD this evening.
Dembele was immense.

What are your thoughts on Paulino's position? would Dembele have been better utilised there? or even Siggy?
Or Lamela?

Problem with that is it isn't always possible, lots of teams sit back and defend deep against us even when we're away from home because we've got a rep for being dangerous with space.
I liked the way we took more risks in the attacking third - didn't matter if we lost possession as we quickly got back into shape - we need to do that against the lesser teams

It was a good point as much as it is always nice to get back to winning ways.
I think there is a lot of pressure on us this season, I was happy with the draw last season and I am again today. I personally think we should drop Dawson - yes he is spurs through and through I just believe he is our weak link at the back and how slow does he look at times.
We have a good run of games now and we need to take as many points as possible, the hardest games we have before next year is Southampton away and Liverpool at home.

Chadli did play well, but it would have been nice to test Man Utd with both Lennon and Townsend on to try for the win...
I thought Townsend was mighty unlucky not to make contact with Walker's ball in and such a shame Bobby S didn't spank in his chance in the first half (whatever the final result) to put cherry on his cake of an amazing touch to Paulinho - would have done him the world of good but really does show his slight lack of confidence at the moment.

Saying that, it took a certain Dimitar B. some time to show his talent, a Europa league game when the keeper passed him the ball and he spanked it back with interest was the start I recall. When Bobby does start popping them in, I'm sure he'll show us how amazing he is. Just needs a little more support up top!

Patrice Evra was booked in the 78th minute; a statistic which is of absolutely no significance......unless you consider that he hacked down lennon early in the first half. For that hideous challenge - which would have seen any other ref book anybody who did it - he was merely warned, not given a yellow card. Had Mr Dean done his job properly, we would have played the last twelve minutes against ten men.

We were given a free kick when a ManUre player handled the ball in our box. Yet when a player from the same team did exactly the same thing in his own penalty area, nothing was given. Useless, spineless officiating.

We got nothing from the ref today.

Only got to see the highlights yesterday, but we looked like a completely different team yesterday!

SO much better, so it's looking up and we will destroy Fulham if we play like that :)

Much better today, but I do wonder with avb and his substitutions. wtf was the Lennon sub for, Chadli offered nothing going forward yet he takes our best attacking player off. It seems it's two steps forward and one back with avb, he doesn't seem to be learning from his past mistakes.

You know that Lennon hardly touched the ball in the time he was on in the second half right? He made no passes, and one tackle in the second half. He may have had a good first half, but was nowhere in the second. Good call by AVB.

Chadli did everything Lamela failed to do against City.
