Barring 20 yard pot shots, Defoe is just awful at all aspects of football. What the hell is he doing as a starting lone striker.

totally agree - Defoe needs a partner in a 4 4 2 - but problem is that Ade is unfit - so he'll probably come on at half time... I hope!!

Our system is all over the place too. I honestly couldn't tell you what formation we are playing after that half.

Whatever it is, it is evidently not one with a number 9 or a player in midfield who can dictate play.

I'm really worried about this season now.

Probably the worst home first half I have seen for 4 or 5 years. Absolutely dreadful. In fact the last game that sticks in my mind, not a home game, was Fulham away in the cup. Just dreadful.

It really is very clear that we lack a ball playing midfielder. Somebody who will get hold of the ball and allow people to move around him. Both Livermoore (who has been anonmyous) and Sandro (who has not been much better) look to give the ball to somebody else. Neither of them have it in their game to create.

Defoe is a waste of time.

I miss VDV and Modric so much!

I wouldn't say we couldn't expect anything, but we certainly can't expect to do anything for the first few weeks. Anyone who thinks we should have delivered anything different pretty much needs their head examining.

I think that's crazy. You don't spend money and hire new managers/backroom guys to write off a whole season because it takes a few weeks to gel. You may have to adjust your system, but writing off games and not be arsed to put effort in is unnacceptable, may aswell tell the stadium to stay home.

I was still being optimistic after the second game, but this is bloody awful. Defoe staying on the pitch after HT and I'll be really nervous.

Utterly dismal performance. Sandro and Livermore look like the worst CM partnership this planet has ever seen. Both not looking for the ball, and when they do get it they misplace their pass!

No VDV is really not helping, he would get hold of the ball, Sigurdsson doesn't seem to be able to do that. FML if Dembele is no good we really are screwed......

I put money on AVB not removing Defoe at half time just bringing on Dembele for sandro/livermore. Why are they all running away from each other scared to pass or recieve the ball no movement no pressing. Also if selling dawson because of long ball passes.....then avb better remind all the squad about that!!!!

I have never been a AVB Fan and it is evident so far to date - this team is going to struggle - no creativity, pathetic formation - and he wanted to sell Tom and Dawson - To be honest, nothing more then we deserve. yep so many deluded sheep on here, I did the same, same with Carroll, did anyone see the shift he put in earlier? didnt give the Fulham back 4 a minute and really dominated them, defoe is shit and why he got a new 3 year contract is behond me, not convinced by the direction our club is heading in, we sign a gk when its the one position we didnt really need.

I still can't fucking believe we didn't start Dembele and Ade. Needed some excitement even if they weren't quite ready, instead everyone at WHL and watching on TV were probably depressed from the start because of Defoe and Livermore playing, not a very smart decision AVB!

Players that we were saying were world class last season seem to have no confidence and look like they would struggle in the Championship.

If it was just one player I could understand a drop in form but just about every player looks significantly worse than they did last season - I wonder what that could be down to???
