I keep reading comments like this.

What progress are we making? We finished 6th last season and at present rate aren't going to finish any higher than that this. Defeat tonight would leave us platooned in 7th.

5th the season before that.

4th the season before that.

We still don't have a new stadium and we still have a massively unbalanced squad (although Poch does seem to be trying to remedy that but hasn't actually done so yet).

Exactly how have we progressed or moved forward as a club?

But that's such a banal way to look at it. Surely you can see that we're building something for the future. The young core of players who look like they're going to be at Tottenham for a long time, who could form an exceptional spine to the team for years to come.

A young and ambitious manager who's trying to give us an identity and playing style. Surely its encouraging that its became more evident in recent weeks and the players are buying into it.

Have you ever seen us steam role Arsenal like that? Or Put 5 past Chelsea?

Yes its not always on show but we've played a huge amount of games and I think any balanced supporter can see the promise for the future if we keep this core and manager together.

If people want to look at it negatively, they'll find the negatives and present it as such like you've done but its ignoring all the context.

So is Andros. Doesnt track back. Doesnt add anything besides pace. Doesnt press. Yedlin at least tracks back(out of habit due to being an RB for Seattle) and looks to cross the ball.

The fact that he's nowhere near the squad still even though walker has just come back from.a massive.long term injury and we have no other natural rb leads me to.believe the coaching staff have assessed him and deemed nowhere near ready to play at premier league level.

and to play yedlin as an attacking right ahead of Townsend and Lamela probably hasn't even entered poch 's darkest dreams

I want Spurs to do well. And from what I have seen recently. We are in dire need of someone who can not inly inject pace into the team, but also looks to lay in a cross when he stretches the opposition.

I can't tell you how many times i wanna pull my hair out watching Townsend and Walker constantly get into position then just either pass it back to each other and get it back to the center of the final third outside of the box or just lose it altogether. It's infuriating. At least Yedlin not only looks to cross the ball, but also does it fairly well.

I'm not only advocating him because he's American. If he was any other nationality, I'd say the same thing. From what i see, we need someone to stretch defenses and also lay in a cross into the box and give us a chance to score. We have someone like that at the club. Might as well give him a shot and see what he can do.

Thing is at the moment with him in the team he'd likely not get into any positions to lay on these crosses, and would get murdered going backwards. If he was anywhere near good enough he'd have been around the team.

Has even played again for the U21s?

Mate, he effectively wanted Pochettino out after 3/4 months of the season. You can't reason with some people.

Last season wasn't a great season at all, no actually form, concern at the club, things looking in disarray... or maybe a lack of direction.

Lost our best players, bought in shed loads more, who weren't really doing the job, some good players off form (verts for example), just shit completely. Late goals, shit performances, leaky defense etc, it all came ahead towards the end of last season that a couple of seasons poor performance, the re-ermergence of liverpool last year didn't help and only them being so shit helped us over achieve the previous season.

I'd probably go back as far as when redknapp courted the idea of the england/chelsea job and our downfall from then on.

As such, the ship needed steadying, the rotten core needed fixing, and at the beginning of the season this was pretty evident. However, when I talk about progress, I'm talking about the team unity and strength, the fitness, the starting of a new 'style' and tempo.

Yes there are still issues with the leaky defence, but overall, I feel that not only has there been progress on the pitch over the last couple of seasons, there seems to be progress from within the club, the tenacity on thepitch and no 'drama's' as such from within the club (certainly since the ade/kaboul shite).

Overall, pretty satisfied as to where we currently are, in terms of league position and overall performances.

What I found especially pleasing, was the way our supporters (the majority), were up-beat and positive after Sunday. There was none of the usual blaming everyone, knee jerk garbage we have become so used to. Most (if not all) can see the potential. IMO it's born out of the promoting from within, players that actually care about us.
I heard a quote from Poch (I'm paraphrasing a bit as I can't remember the exact word for word quote) in which he says in England, people are less likely to turn to youth/academy players, assuming they are not good enough, thus turning to imports assuming they will be better. He then said we have so much talent in our academy!
This is the direction I hope we go, and I genuinely believe Poch is the man to bring success. I still think we need some ready made, straight out of the box, top players in certain positions – just so the Kanes and Masons etc can learn and grow.

Hopefully Jefferson Montero doesn't start. He will tear Walker apart with his trickery and Davies with his pace.

Just put the dude on ignore, I did ages ago and my enjoyment of this forum increased massively. Some of our fans only happy when moaning. Let em, you'll never convince them.

Liverpool are a good example for us to follow, 7th in their 1st season under Rodgers while he was trying to implement his style and the fans and owners stuck with him and have been much improved in the next 1.5 seasons.
A lot of people on here were all for giving the new manager time and patients, now is the time to stick to that( almost all are to be fair) and re evaluate this time next year

2-1 loss written all over it for me, but I'd like to see us do something very un-Spurs and comfortably have them blown away by half-time.

Stop, stop... he's already dead.

Great response.

Anyone who can't to acknowledge the progress, I can only assume doesn't want to see and is refusing to even tolerate the idea that things are looking better than they have done for a few years.

Same attitude I adopted since the beginning of the year. Enjoying the forum much more since then.
