Tottenham are keen to finalise a new three-year deal for defender Eric Dier soon. The 29-year-old’s current contract expires in 2024 and Spurs have opened talks with him about extending his stay until the summer of 2026.

Tottenham want to wrap up the deal for the versatile and long-serving star irrespective of the identity of their next manager.

It took a lot of time but Arsenal let a lot of underperforming first team squad players leave on free transfers. They made a few mistakes with extending contracts but they've benefitted from getting rid when they couldn't sell.

We have several players who have been here a long time who are either no longer good enough or never made the grade. Dier is very much one of them and it's time for him to go.

I like Dier and he loves the club. He has his limitations as a player and has made mistakes but at least he cares. Sometimes you need these type of players around even if they don't play every game. We have to support these type of players rather than chew them up and spit them out.

I really don't agree. I can respect his attitude and the fact that he cares but if the ability isn't there then at the top end of the game, you'll get consistently punished. Which he does.

Sorry but the spine of this team needs ripping apart and starting again. Lloris, Dier, Hojbjerg are massively influential and simply are not of the required standard. Move on and start again this is never gonna work. Signing Dier to a new contract is just going to cost us money in the long run.

I don't disagree with you.

I wonder where else he could go though.

He is spurs through and through. And for us it is something we should hold on to.

I'm not saying he should play every game but so many successful teams have a weird player that just had that grit over ability they sometimes need. Back up players are hard to find.

If it's a new deal it should be on a major wage reduction with big bonuses. Otherwise he'll be another player we can't shift when we want to.

This is all that's wrong with the club.
I like Dier and he's been a great servant but his time has been and gone.
We'll never get the rebuild we need if we keep (sad to say) mediocre players around.
I'll be somewhat sad to see him go but he's not going to improve and unfortunately just isn't good enough for where we want to be.

We need to rebuild and that's not going to happen like this.
This just stinks of Levy trying to do things on the cheap again, kicking the can down the road

This is a difficult one really. We currently have one decent CB at the club in Romero, Lenglet is leaving at the end of the season whilst Sanchez, Tanganga and Rodon are really not good enough and sit behind Dier IMO. Under normal circumstances I would say look to sell at all costs but I'd look to move on the three mentioned above before him.

I don't think I'd mind having Dier at the club if we for example bought two new CB's and he was 4th in the pecking order.

1. Why should we care where he goes.
2. Who cares if he’s spurs thru and thru. You can’t keep people at the club for sentimental reasons.

Both Dier and Davies has contracts that expire at a time it seem natural for them to leave. Just let them run out, there's not much value to protect by offering new.
