Let's say we get him for £100k basic / week on a 4 year deal. That's £21m outlay before bonuses over 4 years, plus £5m = £26m. There's no re-sale value after 4 years, either.

Good player, and would be happy if we signed him, but a bargain he isn't.

I REALLY don't think you can evaluate the value of players in that way. 5 million is a complete bargain for Ade based on what we could realistically sell him for in a years time, remember what we sold crouch for. Wages have to be kept separate all together imo, it's more a maintenance cost rather than the cost of purchasing an asset if that analogy makes it any more sense? And even if you do take wages into account, he's not going to be that much more over four years than say an Andy Carroll.... He has to be considered a bargain at 5 million... Has to be.

I asked JJ for any info on AVB's assistant & if there was any truth to the Carvalho rumours. He refered me to Archie's genius comments. Not sure if anyone else made the wrong assumption as me in thinking Freund would be incoming as a youth coach given his recent job experience but it appears he's set for first team duties...

This thread is for discussing stuff from twitter, not for interrogating JJ on here and certainly not for twitter requests. PM JJ if you think you need to but I'd suggest you're just patient.

If he scores 20+ goals a season for us and fires us to glory then it will in fact be a bargain.

Firstly, you can say that about any player regardless of the financial outlay, whether it's a Cantona or an Aguero. Secondly, Adebayor has yet to do those things you're saying- if Rebrov had scored 20+ goals a season and fired us to glory the 11m record fee at the time would have been a bargain.

I'm not saying he's not a good player, but from a financial perspective Adebayor is pretty much a first for our club in recent years where his wages (given his age) are concerned. It's a big financial outlay and there are significant risks attached. The £5m fee is a bit of a red herring. He's not a bargain, at least not at this point in time.

Personally not that keen on moutinho, had a good euros but im a bit wary of that sometimes. When I've seen him play for Porto he looks neat and tidy but not much else. Rather Dembele, who would be far cheaper as well.

A great club motto. One we don't really live by, as such, in the transfer market! When did we last sign a striker who was considered one of the best in the world? Jurgen Klinsmann back in 1994?

TO be fair , non spurs people havent even considered us of the biggest clubs in the prem untill recently , never mind one of the biggest in the world.
We havent really had much opportunity to sign the worlds best. When we have tried they just sent us nice thank you letters.

I thought Freund was coming in to work with the youth side of things, not to be assistant manager?
No I think that was something I suggested because he coaches the German youth players. We just guessed he would do the same at Spurs. However I would be surprised if he becomes assistant coach. I'm sure AVB would prefer one of his own men unless it's something DL insisted!

Right. Exactly! You have to speculate to accumulate.

And then the end result is based on the player's performance. You take a chance, and hope they'll be a success. Adebayor is fairly risk free. We know what we can get from him.

By the same logic you're applying NO ONE is a bargain. Pienaar for £2.5m everyone said was a bargain, but then we paid him top whack wages and he did fuck all for us! So, no he wasn't a bargain, at all. But then we'll sell him for £4.5m, maybe...

The point is, going back to the original statement, we need someone to put the ball in the onion bag. Adebayor is the best of who is available to us that we could realistically sign.

But Ade was awesome last season, how many assists did he get to go with his goal tally? Levy won't do the deal if we can't afford it so there's nothing to worry about.

I think if AVB had his own man for the position he would have been announced same time as the other two chaps who he did bring in.

The fact RDM was his Ass Man at Chelsea kind of suggests he doesn't have his own assistant anymore! So, who will he have in mind?

Any top class player will cost us about the same in wages as Ade would so the wage argument doesn't really hold up. Damiao, Falcao etc would cost the same per week plus an extra 15-25 mil in transfer fee. Plus they'd have no proven record in the Prem. Ade for 5 mil is a no brainer.
