I don't want to go off track too much, so I'll make one post in answer to everyone that has quoted me.

Adebayor is a good player. He did well last year. I would be happy if we were to sign him (along with another prospect).

However:

- somebody who is currently on 100-150k (depending on who you believe) is not cheap, regardless of whether the transfer fee is low. We're apparently having to make exceptions for him with regards to wage limit.
- the ability to recoup any significant amount of the c.£30m investment is diminished by the lack of re-sale value for a player that will likely be the wrong side of thirty
- when people are using phrases like "bargain", "no-brainer" etc they make it sound as if the club should / will take this decision lightly or that this is an easy decision. I'm pretty sure our chairman doesn't think in the same way when evaluating such a big investment
- to everybody saying that the outlay is justified now if he scores 20+ a season and wins us things: how many times has a scored 20+ goals in a season? How many titles has he won to date?

There are risks involved, so I don't buy the fact that this is a "bargain".

Always going to be risks involved. But for the quality of player the deal being suggested seems to be pretty good for us. There are more prolific strikers, there are those with potential who will give us the opportunity to make a profit when moving on or still get our money back if they flop and there's the fact that we're spending money on someone who doesn't improve the squad from last year (as we had him anyway) and has a reputation for being a bit moody. But given all that the figures quoted still seem to suggest the deal is favourable to us. We seem to be going back to trying to sign mainly young players, with potential, I hope we don't make the same mistakes we did under Jol by only signing youth and missing out on players reaching their peak because we won't be able to sell them on for a profit. Ade showed last year he's more than just a goalscorer, without champs league I think we'll struggle to get a better all round striker.

Ajax only slightly ahead of Spurs. Unlike the Corluka deal, haha. Moscow announced that 3 days before Spurs.
