if arda comes in , bentley should stay too, have you learnt nothing about squads and team stability?

Yes I've learnt. So Modric, Kranjcar, Bale (...) Defoe, Crouch must stay. Bentley is one of our weakest point and Harry should sell the weakest points ( Bentley, Jenas ) and buy better option like Bastian Schweinsteiger and Arda Turan

I certainly think this one is true now, to much info coming out and we were interested in him last summer so he has been on the radar for quite sometime now.

Let's just hope it's announced sooner rather than later.

i was just reading around gala forums and most fans seem to be ready to let him go as he has wanted to play elsewhere for quite a while now. I think just a few weeks ago he was booed on in a game.

I can appreciate you would like to improve on our squad and get rid of the dead wood. However, its my contention that Bentley is far from deadwood. I dont know about you but I would not be happy to sell a player (Bentley) who in 16 apps (inc sub apps) has scored 4 goals and got 6 assists and can quite clearly be seen as a main figure in the camaraderie and bonding between the team. And in exchange sign a player (Arda) who has not yet proved his ability in any of Europe's second tier leagues like France, Germany or Holland etc, let alone the top tier of Europe's leagues. ie Spain, England and Italy.

I agree wholeheartedly that we should buy to make improvements to the squad where we have weaknesses. But with an increase in the number of games we expect to play i'm suggesting that we keep Bentley and sign Arda. I wont patronise you with the "football is a squad game" spiel because im sure you're aware of that but I'd be loathe to sell any one of the players we finished the season with and that includes the obvious suspects as well as Bentley, Kaboul and Jenas.

The only players we should be selling are those that went out on loan and are not needed like Hutton, Keane, dos Santos, O'Hara and Taarabt.

We need to add to the squad and not just improve it.

i dont see bentley leaving if arda arrives, arda will more likely provide back-up for kranjcar, or more likely kranjcar for arda. the two of them will fight out the left mid spot. in that case we would have for every position on our team 2 players competing which is a pretty good squad imo.

Gomes
New GK

Corluka Dawson King Bale
Kaboul Woodgate/New CB Bassong BAE

Lennon Hudd Modric Arda
Bentley Palacios Sandro Kranjcar

Defoe Dzeko
Crouch Pav/Keane

Plus all the youngster we have, which are imo not yet ready to play regualary and deliver regulary on every stage.

So imo everyone not in that list is deadwood:
Hutton
Taarabt
Keane or Pav (if we get a great forward)
Giovani
O'Hara
Jenas
Alnwick
Dervite

Thing is mate, Bentley won't WANT to stay with another wideman coming in, that'll reduce his game time even more. Likewise with Jenas. We're not big enough yet for players with international ambitions to be content with backup roles. They won't have it. They'll go.

But that is the best part of getting Turan, he can play on either wing and provide cover for Lennon if he gets hurt but can just as easily play on the left so our midfield would look like this

Lennon Hudd Modric Turan

Turan Palacios Sandro Niko

This is assuming we bring Bale back to left back, which I am not sure is the right thing to do with him playing so well at left winger but if need be we can move guys all around and fit Bale into midfield and give guys a rest. There will be plenty of games to give this many midfielders enough game time so they wouldn't be upset but I think you are right about Bentley and Jenas being shipped out to pay for that big time striker we need to sign to survive in the Champions League and keep 4th place in the Prem.

Im not so sure Bentley would leave a team he has finally settled down in after finding some form, leave behind the chance of Champions League football and the fantastic atmosphere that has been established for a new club. At least not this season.

Plus I get the irrational feeling that harry will have us playing 4-3-3 a lot more next season. I dont know why but thats what i feel. If I am right Bentley and Jenas may well be needed and it may be our underperforming forwards that see more bench time.

In any case, players will be needed to rotate in case of injuries, suspension loss of form and tiredness from midweek matches and I would hope Harry attempts to compete on League, Fa Cup, Carling Cup and Champion's League fronts. Remember we scraped 4th with a game to go after not competing in Europe and going out of the Carling cup in the QF stage.

We have broken the door of top 4 but we cannot afford to go into a new season light on squad strength

Yes that's true. About Bentley I mean that Redknapp give him a chance and David value's risen. If Sunderland, Everton or Villa will give 12 m. for Bentley I'm sure that Redknapp will take this with smile on his red face  the same about jenas, hutton, keane, taarabt and o'hara. And Pavlyuchenko I think. He was great in last games, but if somebody will pay 13-15 m i'm sure it will mean "Goodbye Pav, Super Pav". But hope I'm wrong...

i personally think we should keep ohara and sell jenas. we would have huddlestone, palacios, ohara, sandro, and modric. would we really still need jenas. as for bentley if we bring in arda that means we will have modric, arda, kranjcar, bale, and lennon all who can play on the left and kranjcar, lennon, and modric who can play on the right making bentley very expendible imo.

Can we keep formations and players not mentioned in the ITK to other threads.

I know Turan (or any other incoming player) will have an impact on players already here, just saves on all of these thread people listing who they want to buy/sell and what formation people think we could play

Cheers

A valid point, but what has it to do with the price of fish? Or, more precisely, Arda Turan?

Spurs have reportedly beaten Liverpool to the signing of Turkish winger Arda Turan.
According to Turkish radio station Radyospor, Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal in principal with Galatasaray to bring the left sided midfielder to White Hart Lane, with Liverpool missing out on their long-time target.
The station reports that Harry Redknapp will part with €5 million plus Giovanni Dos Santos for the enigmatic Turan, who has 34 caps for Turkey at the age of just 23.
