Here's an idea, before he's even kicked a ball for us, shall we not totally write him off has being a sack of shit!?

After all, he could prove to be an incredibly shrewd signing and if he doesn't then we hardly lose in any way do we? It's a loan deal so if he doesn't pan out then back to Monaco with him.

We're getting someone who is very good with his back to goal. Someone who will drop into the whole behind the striker, he's strong on the ball, has a good football brain, and is good in the air. I think he'll work great with Modric, Lennon and Defoe playing off him. My only concern for the imediate future is Lennons injury. Without him i think we'll lack a bit of pace going forward. Which means we need to make space for Defoe to work in. I hope things dont get too narrow in attack for us. But if Bentley plays, at least he gives us the width. And with Bale operating down the left, we might just open the pitch enough for Gudjohnson to work in. Although i'm guessing he'll more likely be backup for now at least.

I'll give a chance. In Harry we trust!

Quality post mil1lion - i totally agree with this.

I also think it is the beginning of the end of things for Keane. Depending on how Gudjohnson gets on of course, but assuming he can reclaim his old level in the PL, then i'd say that Keane would be 4th choice in Harry's eyes.

Just a flippin shame we've loaned out GDS - i think he would give us that bit of pace and flair on the right wing that we so lack without Lennon.

I don't see him playing with Keane. They are too similar IMO, both "in-the-hole", second striker type players. If they played together we'd have no-one leading the line. If he is going to bring the best out of Keano then it will be Robbie being forced to up his game now he has further competition for a place on the pitch.

I think this is a bit of a misconception about Keane. Keane's best football with Spurs was with Berbatov and the majority of the time Berbatov was the link/target man and Keane led the line. Yes he can drop into the hole as it were but he can certainly lead the line very well. Think his goals against Fulham in the cup and Liverpool away in the league and you'll see what I mean.

EG is the one type of player we don't really have. Crouch is a target man, Keane is a no. 9 more and a no. 10 and Defoe is obviously a no. 9. But EG can link the play AND be the target man as Berbatov/Sheringham did bringing others into the game and holding the ball up/winning flick ons etc. IF this works it could be the difference between top 4 and top 6...

Sorry I missed that bit. Where did anyone refer to him as "a sack of shit?" from what I've been reading nearly everyone thinks its a good signing

I was just about to say the same. Keane's definitely better as a poacher, when he drops back he does so too often and it eliminates his best skill, which is his instinctive eye for goal, especially volleys. Since he's moved to the more deep striker role we've seen a lot less super volleys from him (although not having robinson to place it straight from the kickoff on robbie's boot makes a difference too).

I think this balances us a lot. Pav was supposed to be Berba's replacement but he's too much of a goalscoring type so it means we have 3 in that mould. Gudjohnsen will give us a more thoughtful provider striker option. Hopefully that means more goals for Defoe and Keane.

The problem with Keane as the deep lying striker is he still doesn't have any upper body strength to recieve it back to goal. Gudjohnsen can hold off defenders and lay it off or turn.

He is like Teddy, an all round striker.

If we can get him, it would be a great signing. Him and Defoe would be the first choice forwards.

Exactly.

Gudjohnsen may not start immediately, but I think he'll force his way in before too long. He is a Sheringham type, he makes up for his lack of pace (though he's probably quicker than Crouch or Keane) with a great footballing brain and a lot of technique. He has the ability to bring others into play and make them look better, play with his back to goal and link midfield to attack. On top of this, like Teddy, he is also tall, strong and good in the air, so he offers us an outlet when under pressure as well as being a good footballer on the ground. He's 31, so should still have a few good years left in him. I just hope we have an agreed fee should he be a success.

An yes, I reckon the striker who will benefit most from him is Defoe. Looking at history, his best partnership was with Hasslebaink who was not dissimilar to Defoe in style.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the Ice Man can do for us.

Why do always mke Keane out to be a deep striker, @In the hole@@. He is awful there. Plays too deep, doesn't support the front man quick enough, shit first touch, and doesn't play with his head up when under pressure. His best two seasons by a very long margin for us were playing on the shoulder next to Berba. Instinctive, good movement in behind, tricky in the box, smacking the ball in without thinking about it. We'll never have that player back.

Gudjohnson, has time on the ball, is intelligent, and has spent 4 years playing with the best players of his kind on the planet in Iniesta, Xavi, Deco etc. He is not, and never has been an out and out forward. But he does make things happen.

Quite happy about this. EG is an experianced, quality player who has won things and played in big games. If the reports are true that it's a loan deal with Monaco picking up a large part of his wages, then it's a win win situation as far as i can see.
As you say, desent deal money wise so little risk involved - I am thinking Harry is worried about the Pav deal coming down to wire and loosing him at midnight last day and then having no time......I also think harry feels we don't necessarily need a fourth striker and EG's versatility could be an assist.......but if it doesn't work out, we have not lost a lot! So I am not jumping up and down about this deal, but it is another solid squad player to have, so no harm, he will also put a little more pressure on Keane than Pav did, and maybe a little on Hudd, JJ, and Kranjcar - so this really is a win win for us!

I wasn't literally quoting from anyone was I, but I've still read loads of posts about how gutted ppl are about the signing and how he's not the player he was cos just look at his record at Monaco or Barca.
