As much as it pains me to say, TN is not an elite job anymore. 15-20 years ago, yes. Today, no. Most fans need to temper their expectations on who we can attract as a coach. However, this is a different situation. Most of the fan displeasure has to do with non-football reasons and rightfully so. The media wants to paint us an ignorant and ill-informed because we "ran off a good coach." If he didn't have the baggage associated with Pedo State U, then maybe I could get behind him. (Probably not) His record as a head coach isn't that great but, again, who can TN really attract?

A lot of the media don't seem to realise that UT fans are well within their right to not want someone from that era of Penn State, regardless of their complicity, anywhere near their school.

I don't think it has anything to do with overinflated expectations. Nobody I've seen is complaining that he's not good enough, it seems like the objection from the fans doesn't have anything to do with football, in fact, I don't think anyone has even looked into whether or not it's a good appointment from a football perspective because that discussion shouldn't even get started. The fact is people don't want him at all, end of. He could be the greatest CFB coach going and people would still be protesting because he should never have even been on the shortlist in the first place due to all the Penn State stuff.

Same could be said for a huge number of programs.

Realistically there are only a handful of programs (say 7 or so, with Bama and Ohio state the prime examples) that will, without fail, compete for national titles every single year. Beyond those programs if you have a program that picks up 9-10 wins regularly you have it good. You will be in a decent bowl every year and once or twice a decade you will get the right players in the right system at the right time and you will get a run at a title.

When Tennessee fired Fullmer i said to a friend of mine who is a UTK alum that they were making the same mistake that Texas A&M made when they forced out R.C. Slucum. All Slocum did at TAMU was win 9-11 games a year and go to the Cotton Bowl (granted, he lost the Cotton bowl every year) but Aggie fans all thought that they deserved (with no actual basis for this belief) to be a national title contender every year. The result has been 15 years of revolving coaching jobs that have never met the Aggie expectations. Tennessee has done the same thing since Fulmer left and had tire fire after tire fire with their coaches.

Texas is having the same issue since Mack was forced out. Solich winning 10 games a season wasn't good enough for Nebraska after Osborn and as a result they have been a tire fire for 15 years.

Michigan is just now recovering from forcing Carr out and if it wasn't for the fact Harbaugh is who he is the Michigan faithful would probably be begging for him to get fired.

If Tennessee were smart they wouldn't look for a "big name" coach, they would look for an up-and-coming coach and let him build out the program. But just like Nebraska, Texas, TAMU and others UTK will probably try and find a big name somewhere and continue the spiral they are in.

I want you guys to be the first to know that I’ve decided to accept the Tennessee job. They haven't approached me yet but the rate in which John Currie is getting through candidates it's only a matter of time till the job is offered to me. Obviously, as an LSU alum, I know some Vols fans won't be happy with my appointment but I want to ensure them that I will be hiring someone to my coaching staff who'll teach me how a play clock works.

UCF wins the All-American Conference 62-55 over Memphis.

Heck of a game for Scott Frost to have for his finale as he signs with Nebraska.

Auburn

Beats 2 rivals. Play in SEC Championship for chance of playoff berth.

Lose

Both Rivals make playoffs.

ouch....

If conference championships don't matter anymore maybe we can get rid of the games.

I've always thought to have a playoff system where conference champs (5 teams) get an automatic spot then give the 6th spot to maybe the highest mid major conference champ or an at-large non-conference champ. Give the 1 and 2 seed a bye and make 3v6 and 4v5 play the first games.

If the FCS can do a 24 team playoff, why cant FBS or whatever they call it now?

Such bullshit from the Committee. The system just makes no sense at all because it's far too subjective and open to blatant bias. I'd be in favour of something similar to what @Chattaben suggested. I would suggest something like go to an 8-team playoff where the power 5 champs each get in automatically and then the additional 3 places are selected by the committee from all of the FBS. I'd then get the committee to rank those 8 in order to determine who plays who i.e. 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc.

That way, you have the advantage that if there's one conference that is particularly deep, you've still got the possibility for the best teams to get in through the committee picks, but having the 5 champs automatically in removes a lot of the bias as well, so this year the Bama-obsessed Committee could still have put Alabama through but without having to rob Ohio State, for example.

Just for the record, if anything I'm an Illinois fan so non of this is likely to affect me anyway with the state of their program :D so this isn't me just trying to jimmy it to get my team in. I genuinely think the current system just makes no sense at all.

I agree.

To me if you don't win your division let alone your conference you can't play for the championship. End of.

I don't care about tough luck or the other team having more losses, if you can't win your division or your conference (for whatever reason) then you lose your claim to a national title because someone out there can say that they either beat you or won the conference and you have no response.

Send the 5 Conference champions (UGA, Clemson, USC, OU, OSU) and a mid-major champ (the undefeated UCF) and let them duke it out. Take the final ranking or number of losses or points against or whatever you want to choose the seeding but that would be more defined and reasonable a system.

It is odd to see neither team with the Gold helmets though. Even Army/Navy has gotten into the Univ of Oregon special uniforms worlld
Only a matter of time till the Premier League gets into the special uniforms world as well.

Normally don't like the special uniforms, the pro combat stuff we've worn are awful but the Navy & Army '16 uniforms were gorgeous while the Army '12 uni is one of my all-time favourites.

I actually think Army/Navy have done really well with their special edition uniforms. There haven't been any truly hideous versions and most have been kind of cool and frankly i don't have an issue with them having a special uniform for the Army/Navy game.

I think Oregon/Oregon Stage/Maryland have gone overboard with the new uni every single game and they all seem to be very, very hit or miss in terms of quality.

But the only ones that bother me is when they start messing with the truly classic uniforms. USC, Penn State, OU, Alabama shouldn't be messed with...Notre Dame, love them or hate them, should be the blue and gold with the Gold helmet (i will give a pass for the occasional green jersey usage), Ohio State should be the silver helmet covered in pride stickers not white with numbers.

CF play-off is a joke. If you took any other sport and proposed they play all their games and then a committee would decide which four teams get in they'd think you were insane.

anyway, Im pretty sure ESPN gets the final say based on TV revenue, but maybe Im just a cynic.

You're almost definitely right. At the end of the day, regardless of everything else, the CFP is a TV show. They're going to do whatever they can to make sure that whatever teams will draw a big national audience get in, which is obviously what's led to all the inconsistency in terms of what does and doesn't count e.g. winning the conference chamionship, difficulty of schedule etc. Ultimately even if Bullshit Tech and Cornfield State miraculously assemble the greatest college teams ever seen, they're still not going to get into the CFP ahead of Alabama and the like because nobody would watch it and the TV networks wouldn't be able to sell the advertizing.

UCF knocks off Auburn to finish 13-0. In 2015 they finished 0-12.

Hell of a turn around by Frost and his staff.

Still wonder if Frost "going home" to Nebraska will end up being a bit too much in terms of expectations for him.

Sorry to some of you on here but Wisconsin are now my favourite Big10 team. "Turnover chain my fucking ass" :ROFLMAO:
It was pretty hilarious to be fair. I don't mind Wisconsin anyway tbh but they definitely get some kudos from me for that. I loved Chryst realising half way through his sentence that he should probably cover his mouth but it was already far too late: "Turnover chain my fucking a----" :ROFLMAO:
