Seriously she/he could play linebacker for the Steelers!

She was playing Li Na the other day and he had to be at least twice the size of Na, Na looked about 8 stone and Williams about 16 stone. I don't care how good a tennis player a girl maybe it's near impossible to overcome such a physical disadvantage, effectively you are asking a woman to beat a man, it's just not going to happen.

Terrible for women's tennis!

great tennis as you expect. Nadal dominated the first, but you know that usually wakes up Nole. The way they are playing currently it looks like nadal's to lose, but I think Nole will come back to win. Shame I wont be able to stay up and watch it.

I always think it's such a shame we will never get to see the modern day greats against the champions of old, but saying that surely computers will recreate matches from the historical data.

That was fucking embarrassing when the IAAF made Caster Semenya take a gender test...

With respect, she has made the most of what she was born with. On here we laud Capoue, Pauli and Sandro for being beasts but slate Williams for doing the same. I don't like it, I would much prefer to watch pretty girls in short skirts playing slow tedious tennis but she and her sister have broken the mould and deserve all their success.

Actually none of those Spurs players are really beasts, they are the majority of the time playing against men of a similar stature, plus being a team game different make ups are required to make a team, much the same in nearly all team sports.

But Williams against female tennis players is akin with sticking Mayweather in with a Klitschko, as good as he maybe the physical difference gives him no real chance.

Lets be honest the 3 Spurs players you described as beasts would be physically intimidated by her, her thighs are like Tyson's for fucks sake.

As for Nadal, incredible to achieve what he as after serious injury, great that he's right back to his best!

If it's so unfair how come she's only won the same number of Grand Slams as Federer but over a longer period of time when Federer has had the challenge of Nadal, Djokovic and Murray? If all the other female players have 'no real chance' Serena would be winning every Slam every year, when in actual fact she's never won more than two a year - Federer's won three in one year twice, Rafa and Djokovic once. It's so unfair that this year was only the second time she's won the French, the first time for eleven years.

Opening a can of worms here no doubt but this whole equality in tennis grinds my gears as well. Men play 5 sets in the slams and women play 3. Htf can they have equal prize money?

Positive discrimination.

Firstly i never said it's unfair, i sad the others have no real chance as it's akin to a woman playing a man, which physically it is. As for results and slam wins as she herself has said through periods of time she has lacked focus and interest, probably due to the fact that it might become tedious at times to simply just overpower opponents.

I wonder how many slams Fed would have won lacking focus and interest, I would suggest nowhere near 17.

As for the French it's not surprising that its the won she's enjoyed the least success in because clay goes the furthest in negating the physical advantage. The fact that she can win on clay at all against better technical players tells you all you need to know about the influence of her physicality.

You certainly gave off that implication.

She also would have won more slams had it not been for the life threatening injury she had a couple of years ago.

As for clay, Rafa Nadal is an absolute beast of a man and physically stronger than all of his rivals yet has dominated the French for the best part of ten years. Serena isn't the only strong, powerful player in the women's game. When Azarenka powers a smaller opponent off the court no one bats an eyelid.

I'd say her success is as much down to consistency. Whereas in the men's game there have been three or four players at a significant level above everyone else for the last four or five years they have all been consistently challenging each other and getting better (as exemplified by the fact that since 2005 only one slam has been won by anyone other than Federer, Nadal, Djokovic or Murray.) In that same period there have been thirteen slam winners besides Serena in the women's game. Plenty of players have come and challenged, but none of them have stuck around at the same level and with the same consistency that Serena has.
