The guy I sit with at the Lane spent time in Holland and watched a lot of footie out there, and when we bumped into Pleaty years ago when he was DOF he begged him to buy Van Der Vaart.

Get him, get him now.

Curt to take Jol past £50m mark

By PAT SHEEHAN
August 16, 20

SPURS will take their summer spending to £50million if they land Curtis Davies.

Tottenham boss Martin Jol had an £8m bid for the centre-half snubbed by West Brom, who want £10m.
It is understood Davies, 22, was at White Hart Lane on Tuesday to see the shocking 3-1 defeat to Everton.
Davies, signed from Luton for £3m two years ago, is keen on a move to the North Londoners so he can boost his England hopes.

Jol has already spent £40m beefing up his squad for an assault on cracking the top four. But his plans have been hit by two successive losses and a knee injury to skipper Ledley King, who will be out for two months.
Tottenham have been tracking Davies for two seasons and have seen him improve beyond all recognition.
Jol has also joined the race to sign Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart.Spurs want the Hamburg midfielder to inject some much-needed creativity into their squad.
But the German club have rejected bids of up to £10m for Van der Vaart from several sides this summer, including Valencia and Juventus. So Jol will have to produce a massive offer to capture his fellow Dutchman, with Hamburg adamant they want him to stay.
Ex-Ajax man Van der Vaart, 24, has been capped 35 times by Holland and Aston Villa were interested last year.
Jol has realised he needs to provide service to his star-studded strikeforce of Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane, Jermain Defoe and Darren Bent.

i would be happy with both of those right now. as strong as i thought we were for defensive cover, the last few days has suggested otherwise.

Its he sun just getting our hopes up. Shame because from what i've heard about him he is brilliant. Although the number of games he has been injured for is concerning.

Why didn't we go for him last season at 4m? We were all praising him then

Anyway a player of his creative ability is very much needed. Him and Guti would be excellent additions for a combined 15m. Add 8m for Davies giving a total of 23m

So thats a total of 60m

We don't need 4 strikers so defoe should go 12m, Mido 6m, Ghaly 2m, Routledge 3m, Gardner 3m, Stalteri 2m Murphy 2m TOTAL 30

60m minus the sales makes it 30m net spend and we have dramatically improved the starting line up and squad for this season

Defoe brings us something different but if the 12mill allowed us to sort out midfield then its money well spent.

I know that relies on alot of ins and alot of outs but it makes good sense. I would definately sell defoe to sort out our midfield.

He would be a great buy, can play CF, LM, AM, and CM, he basically single handedly took Hamburg from relegation to Europe last season.

He's also the Dutch version of David Beckham media wise because of his missus.

Big question though is his knee and other injuries, but when he is 100% he is a top player and 1 we are crying out for.

He is also the most talented footballer I have ever seen live and that includes Ronaldo, Rooney, Henry, Gerrard and Berbatov

Reported in the German and Dutch press on Monday that he wants away - unfortunately to Valencia ("Ich will unbedingt weg, Valencia ist ein Traum." and "Wenn ich in Hamburg bleiben müsste, dann hätte ich Schmerzen.")

Valencia have bid € 14 million. From what I've seen this is someone we need to go for.

We should've got him two seasons ago when he was a third of the price. Fantastic player who would give Jenas and Zokora the kick up the arse they need. He's worth a good £12m, and buying him would be the first purchase this summer which would actually improve the starting 11 positions.

If we're going to spend £16.5m on Bent and £8m+ on the decidedly average Curtis Davies, we should be willing to spend £12m on Van der Vaart, a player who would be worth more to the team than anyone we've bought in the last three years barring Berbatov.

I have only seen him play for Holland and that was a while back. What kind of player has Van Der Vaart turned into?

If we signed him who do you think would drop be dropped?

He is a very creative and attacking midfielder from the times I have seen him play. I would drop JJ and have Zoko holding. JJ is too casual, it donesn't bother him to lose, as long as he looks good on the ball.
