City ruined Bony, he was an excellent player for Swansea.

Who should we have signed then? Because i'd rather us not have dithered any longer on an important signing. He's scored 27 goals, it is now the going rate for a striker of this calibre. AZ had their price, and sometimes you just have to pay it.

I'm actually quite baffled why you would have a big problem with this transfer. Some people who talk like this also turn out to be the ones who say why didn't we sign them earlier when we are linked with him for £30m + when they've ripped it up in the Premier League.
Bony isn't ruined at all.

His goals per 90 minutes is still very good, he's basically still in that ideal 1 goal per 180 minutes range.

It's just that he gets shit on so much because he's not Aguero and isn't insanely prolific.

Still a more than fine striker though.

I love this though. On the cusp of signing an exciting young goalscorer to compete with another exciting young goalscorer we already have at the club, well in time for pre-season, and we all decide to argue about whether we've spent a few too many quid on him.

Bony??? And for almost 20£M to take a gamble? How many players from the Dutch league have failed to succed in the prem?

Successes - Overmars, Bergkamp (via Inter), Stam, Hasselbaink via Portugal), Van Nistelrooj, Van Persie, Robben, Suarez, Guzmanm Dembele, Vertonghen, Eriksen, Bony, Pelle & Alderweireld (via Atletico Madrid).

Flops - Alfonso Alves, Kezman, Venegoor of Hesselink (via Celtic), Depay.

Average - Van Bronckhorst (via Rangers), Blind, Chadli.

Willem Korsten - was injured so it's hard to judge.

I always wonder why Spurs PR don't post snippets of player going for medical? Is there a reason?
As others have stated there's the Willian problem, although that case does have a few singular factors.

But there's also the fact that Agencies and players would be really pissed if you announced it and then didn't sign the player as you're essentially telling the world that the player failed a medical with you which is very taboo. That can impact the player's career tremendously and can even get you blackballed by agents. West Ham got in some shit by going at Charlie Austin and saying that stupid shit like he had no knee ligaments. That club is an absolute travesty and an embarrassment with what comes out of their mouthpieces.

What about them? We are talking about a player that has been standout in his position in that league this season, and is now most probably his National teams first choice striker. Not sure how you can even compare the situations. Eriksen, yes had talent but was pretty raw, and Dier who had hardly played in Portugal. You need to compare it to what they were like when the left their former teams not how good they are now.
Dier was also carrying a super cheap release clause from a previous regime that nearly no one seemed to know about. While Eriksen was on the last year of his deal.

So in the last 3 years, here are the best Eredivisie seasons based on expected goals and assists. Janssen is up near the top but there are some noticeable flops in that list.

(I know, I know, stats are stupid blah blah disclaimer)

Why do we as fans want value for money? I just don't get it? We want the best players we could possible get??
Of course we want value for money.I'm not even suggesting that we switch to cheaper targets, just that we negotiate the best possible deal. If you can't grasp the concept that getting a better deal on one player will free up funds for another then i'm wasting my time. That's basic maths not even economics.

It's not my money they use to pay the fees, they won't reduce cost of tickets because "they saved so much by not sining the most expensive striker", and there is no trophy for most point per pounds spent.

Too many have an fixation with categorically announcing what "is" and what "isn't" value for money, without frankly having any faint idea about how to accurately calculate whether a player is "cheap" or "expensive".

Ticket prices might still be £15 a match if it wasn't for Rupert Murdock. It would still be free to watch on tv too.

It's just an arms race that the fans bear the damage of.

Also a flop doesn't always happen because of the player - sometimes the club have no idea where or how they are going to use a player they are buying. Happens all the time.

Nah, Eriksen was no more raw than Janssen is right now. He was much more highly rated. The key difference is that he was on the last year of his contract, so we got him cheap

Eriksen had been playing with Ajax for a few seasons when we bought him.

Jansssen has only had one season at AZ.

So think Eriksen was a lot less raw when we bought him

Depay is not a flop. Give him time. He only had a season and under that maniac

You can mention Siem de Jong too as a flop, although not much was expected of him tbh
