Have we gone from Lemar to him though? I doubt some kid with 10 league appearances has been sounded out as the alternative to our main target. He's just someone with potential that we may be signing. Regardless of what other business we want to do.

Well I don't know tat we have gone from a - d obviously, but IF we have, that's what's disheartening.

Without youtube videos or news clips its hard to get an idea of what kind of player he is.
Before Nice, he was in Le Havre academy.
Le Havre produced likes of Diarra, Payet & Pogba. Likes of Mahrez & Mendy came through Le Havre youth teams.

Atleast going by the pedigree of academy, he is definitely from a strong French academy - so at the very least, we can expect a decent technical player. Given, he has impressed the scout, surely there is something good in him. If we buy him, hopefully Poch gives the much needed opportunities to prove himself

Mate, this Marcel guy is a youth player. He's barely made 10 appearances for Nice. He's not plan A, B, C or whatever. He's someone with potential we may be looking into signing.

As I said previously I didn't say he was, just said IF. Guess we will see in the coming weeks.

Oi @Kaboul'sForehead - watch this video of France vs Ivory Coast at the Toulon Tournament and provide us a full report on Marcel (no.7 for France). ASAP please.

Alright i've watched the first half of this game.

He's playing in a fairly deep central midfield role. Bit reminiscent of Dembele on the ball, left footed too, 2/3 times he rolls his defender, wins a couple of free kicks, one time he blasts past them. Definitely got a bit of a trick. Bit of passing range and doesn't give the ball away at all. One shot, mistimed, wide, nothing to report on.

Impressed that he's fairly constantly scanning the pitch and isn't shy to direct his teammates.

Doesn't/hasn't had to do anything defensive particularly, and pretty much jogs through the half, which may or may not be a function of the opposition. Perhaps doesn't get on the ball as much as you might like or look for it? One downpoint was he completely switched off at a free kick and wasn't aware that Ivory Coast had quickly got play back up and running, but it came to nothing.

There's enough even in that half to see why he might either be rated or caught the eye though. Elegant type who doesn't waste the ball.

Maybe i'll watch the second half later

Feel like we had a certain Algerian with basically that exact skill-set lol

We really need to start signing players before they become superstars and we can't afford them

*Spurs target a young player with potential*

We have no ambition. We only sign players who are midtable quality

He represented the U20s at the Toulon Tournament, not the World Cup, so basically the U20 B-Team.

Yes dictated by the wage budget. If we do as you say then we have to swallow the pay rises for rest of the team. I know some are advocating it but with stadium it's an even bigger financial commitment. Big move when are current model has delivered success albeit not the title, cups. Don't know the numbers myself, wonder what it might look like. Anyone know what net profit figures were for last financial year? That might give an indication of extra money would could throw at wages. But wouldn't take into a account new deals, income and costs.

I don't think its people getting angry as such, it's just you go from lemar to a virtual unknown it's a tad disheartening, like most have said, if we can't attract "bigger players" when we've finished 3rd then 2nd, and qualified for UCL twice in a row it makes you wonder if something has to change budget wise, i don't agree with it, but when you see Everton spunking what they have, and paying 100k + for players wages, THAT surely must say to the club, hang on a minute we need to re-evaluate the wage bracket. Players literally don't care about league positions anymore.

Who have Everton's signings turned down in favour of higher wages?

He must've really stood out. Our scouts had assignments to watch Pereira and Marcel managed to impress them enough to possibly persuade Poch to sign him up. I'm all for it.

Generally I love signings like this, I just hope he's not like Njie or Nkoudou as our last two young guys who were playing in France.

just watched second half - scored a nice goal played more attacking positions but nothing spectacular - decent but not close to first team for a few years IMO
