So if we give all the players who had their debut season last year a bit more time.......do you think we will finish in the Top 4 next year?
We're not going to finish in the Top 4 regardless of who we sign FFS.

Given the budgets and signings of the teams above us and Mutd I don't think top 4 is particularly attainable this year whatever we (realistically) do with the playing staff.

But that's the target the Chairman sets every year.

Why the negativity? Would be a mad sport if the table would be fix before the first game of the season. Yes we will start as big outsiders but even if we can't compete with the big teams very good....if we do our business against the weaker teams in the league and others may struggle against them...let's see.

I'm not negative. I'm happy with the position the club is in at the moment. I'm actually positive about next season, I just think that there are 5 teams far stronger than us. I'm trying to be realistic for once so I don't feel let down.

Unlikely, not impossible, but unlikely. We have no divine right to finish top 4, there are at least 5 other clubs that should finish top 4 as well, which means there are at least 2 teams that will "fail" next year. Unfortunately I think we are favorites to be one of those "failures". Calling all our signings "numbskulls" and "useless" because we don't finish in the top 4 every year just means we will have a constant revolving door of managers and players, and that will only go one way long term.

Unfortunately, with the departure of Modric and Bale over the last few years and City, Chelsea and the Scum strengthening, the rejuvenation of the Bindippers and the likelihood of Man U being better this year, top 4 is a very big ask, TBH, if it wasn't for Utd being so shocking we would have been further away last year.

If everyone is fixated with a top 4 finish this season, its going to be a long disappointing season for many

Personally, i think finishing in Top 4 is not a priority.......winning the Europa League is. I would be happy with 5th-6th position in Poch first season, important is to correct the basics and push on from there, at the same time taking Europa League very very seriously and doing well. This will be a rehearsal to manage playing the 2 weeks a game competitively , should the club qualify for UCL the following season.

I like him a lot, he is a bit rough around the edges and has the odd moment of total madness but he obviously has a lot of natural ability on the ball for a defender. He could turn into a total diamond for us with more experience and good coaching.

I've seen so many players have a bad start to their Spurs career then go onto have a good career for us. Also seen many have a good start then fade into obscurity.

At the moment I just want us to get a more settled team. I want the players to build a rapport with each other and in turn start to feel a connection to the club again.

This won't happen if we sell everyone that doesn't immediately play to standards.

No my target would always be to win every single competition you enter.

And that's what it will be. Though that doesn't mean it is likely. Realistically I would be hugely surprised if we get top 4 next season even while striving for the title. Your aims, targets and then expectations are all different entities.

This guy has all the attributes to be a quality player, he just needs further exposure to the pace and aggression of the Premier League.

Feels like groundhog day whenever I log into SC these days..

Tricky one this. The lad clearly has ability. Very good on the ball, has good positional sense, has genuine ability as a footballer. But he is very light weight at times and is weak in the air.

His game may well suit the high line as he has some pace to his game. But against the stronger teams I do worry as he does get man handled at times.

One to keep for now but I do not think he is first team quality yet. May well become that guy under Pocho time will tell.

I do agree but Liverpool did it with a squad equal to ours.

But yes it will be incredibly difficult until we get more money.

Weak in the air against who?
Man handled by who?
Top defender adapting to the epl and done bloodly well in the games ive seen.

Watch his performance at home to the spammers in the league cup, and the toon at the lane in the league. He got bullied in both games.

I know he has talent and agree he had some very good games for us. Everton away being one of his best. But there is another side to the debate.

So, out of the 7 signings we made last summer, people have already suggested we should get rid of: Paulinho, Soldado, Chadli, Chiriches (and Capoue nearly went in January to Napoli)

Seriously, this is just nonsensical.
Wrong, it has been Paulinho, Soldado, Chadli, Chiriches, Capoue, Lamela and Vlad in the threads.

So it is worse than you think.

Modern football fans - unless new players are Ronaldo after 30 seconds of football, they are considered shit. The only solution is to go out and spend billions on players, wages of £300k a week and not give the slightest fuck about the long term viability of football (globally), club and the impending catastrophic implosion that will inevitably happen.
