Watch his performance at home to the spammers in the league cup, and the toon at the lane in the league. He got bullied in both games.

I know he has talent and agree he had some very good games for us. Everton away being one of his best. But there is another side to the debate.
Yes Vlad has made mistakes, but every player does.
There are no perfect players, Kompany who I rate as one of, if not the best defender in the league has made plenty.
Every player will have of days, its when they have more of day's then good days is when we should start worrying.
Vlad is not one of these player's imho.

I'm more than happy to see him allowed more time to settle in and I didn't mean to give the impression I felt otherwise. Pretty much the same story with all the rest of the signings we made last summer. I think if we could get the best out of all of them, we wouldn't have too much need to sign anyone, save a left back to cover Rose and a back-up goalie for the mighty Hugo.

Not really my point. Being light weight is my worry. Not the mistakes he makes. As you say he doesn't make many.

IMO Vlad is a proper player. Lots of ability and in the David Luiz mould. Hope he and vertonghen get a go together.

While I agree that he does have lots of ability the thought of a Vlad/Jan partnership fills me with dread. Both take too many chances in possession. Call me old fashioned but I don't want my CB's anywhere near the oppositions box in open play. Couple that with Walker playing further up the pitch and we are going to get slaughtered.

Thats why you play capoue or sandro, so these players can move forward and the DM covers.
Pity les didnt see it that way.

Didn't work out too well for Luis Gustavo and Brazil against Germany. Quite frankly its fundamental that your center back's move up and down the pitch together if you play wing backs. Sandro or Capoue should drop back when Walker and whoever plays LB progress up the pitch, making a back 3 that will normally sit somewhere near the halfway line. It's not a dig at you, but these are the basic's of defending. I really don't rate David Luiz, he makes the hard things look easy and the easy things look hard. The amount of times domestically and internationally he's left his partner in the dark when he's decided to bomb 30 yards forward to try and win a 50/50 that should be none of his business is ridiculous. Yet he gets plaudits because he throws himself about and can strike a ball well. Dare I say it...I don't think Jan is the way forward at CB at all. If he didn't get a strop on he should be played at LB forever more, he has the perfect attributes to be employed at fullback.

You're not getting the right picture. He's hardly advocating lining up like this

Weak in the air against who?
Man handled by who?
Top defender adapting to the epl and done bloodly well in the games ive seen.

I've seen him get bullied a bit on occasions, it's what worries me most about him. But then I've no where near seen enough of him to know how good he will be.

If Verty plays at LB, better pray the wide man on the other team doesn't have pace, if they do he gets skinned more often than not. He is a LCB all day long. Considering he moans about playing LB for us anyway why play him in his weakest position?

Excluding his first few games, he was probably our best CB last season. Seriously

I think he'll be much better this year and he will probably cement himself as a first choice CB. Yes he can get outmuscled at times, but he's still got more going for him than most other CBs and he's only 24

His best performance was against Man Utd in my opinion. He well deserved MOTM, and he was refreshingly ecstatic to have won it.

Young, joined from Romanian football, didn't have a full pre-season, no consistent back 4 alongside him, 2 coaches and general inner turmoil within the dressing room.

I'm prepared to give him more time.

That said, the decision to let Caulker go to bring him in was, and remains, questionable imo.

Not given Caulker's season it wasn't.
