First half performance last night was excellent.
Thought we had the old Walker back. Good runs outside Lennon and put some good crosses in. Played some lovely balls inside the back for Lennon and defensively his positioning was very good.
Aye aye I thought hes back, but I was wrong, his second half showing was abysmal and he dragged Lennon down with him. Whats wrong with him? When he keeps it simple and plays like hid did in the first half you couldnt wish for better, but when he over elaborates and tries to do too much he stinks.
And who told him he should take corners because I cant remember him putting a good one over.
Very strange case.

I thought the same about him looking like his old self, but 2nd half showed how defensively, his awareness has gone. Seems to let wingers run round the back of him, he takes his eye off the game and he's too reliant on his pace to get him out of trouble.

As for the corners, I agree, most of them were terrible yesterday and didn't clear the front post1

did he drag Lennon down with him?

Second half he had little support from Lennon at all, meaning he had to cover two players at times (the goal for one point)

From what i can remember his corners have been better than what we have had over the last few years. Still not good, but there is times where he puts in a good ball.

I think that's the nature of the beast with young defenders. You will get a mixture of performances with greater consistency coming with age & experience...

Agree with the above, thought he played well throughout. The attacking passing let him down in the second half, but thought he played well against some decent opposition.

its not as strange as the performance of our striker last night - after the Dembele chance i barely remember him being on the pitch. How can a team playing at home have an anonymous striker? I dont get it.

I thought Walker was good, it was Lennon who stopped making the smart runs in the second half. Twice Walker played good balls in behind the defence for Lennon, and Lennon was caught on his heels.

I think your right. I though Lennon was terrible in the second half and not all of that was to do with Walker. I though we were better immediately after he went off.

Walker had a good game, my man of the match. but as a team we lost our way a bit in the second half and the movement wasnt there, he played some decent balls that Lennon should have been on his feet for as he was in the first half.

Holtby changed the whole direction of the game, once he started chasing everything down and gettign at them the team responded.

Adebayor and Dempsey were poor.

Two goals from Bale, one of which was in the dying seconds and you don't give him man of the match???

You've got to give some credit to Lyon, a lot of the time people forget we actually have opponents who change things when they realise they're being torn apart. Lennon did go a little off the boil in the second half but Lyon tightened things up down the left (our right) and in midfield and repelled an awful lot of our attacks in the second half.

Having said all of that our players should be capable of recognising that changes have been made to stop their gallop and for them to try something different instead. Thankfully Bale was on target again, isn't that 3 goals from his last 3 free kicks?

I think he took one from the right edge of the box that got punched away, could have been a whipped ball in though and not technically an attempt at goal.

Man of the Match isn't decided on who scores goals. Bale's two free kicks aside, he was one of our poorest players last night.

maybe tactical instructions? AVB asking him to play a certain way this season- less eyecatching performances but he has been sacrificed for the team as we are more solid than last season?

Dont know what instructions he got from AVB about going forward [at half time].

Also my reading was Lennon sat back on his heals in the second half for some reason, Walker played a couple of decent balls to him and he just stood there, while the ball went out or to their player, Balls that Lennon should have got, and not juust stood there throwing his hands up in the air.

Nonthing against Lennon, like him, but he was off the boil second half, with the full back already booked, why wasnt he trying to roast him?

He is so fast that he thinks his pace can get him out of trouble. That's why he doesn't think which side he should approach the player with the ball and makes wrong side challenges all the time. The fact that he gets away with it a lot of times makes him perpetrate such indiscretions.
