Lack of a midfield lynchpin for me. Especially when you consider the new players we have brought in, we need someone to lead and be the focal point for our defensive duties

No Rez you're the one who got it wrong - you said it was unthinkable - I said it was easily thinkable - ie imaginable, conceivavble - see the dictionary definitions I took the trouble to post for you :)

Yep if you'd have used a different word, then the mix up may have been avoided, but please don't pull me up on my English when I haven't made a mistake.

As for the defence or strikers biz - I'd already posted about the problems with our defence before your post - and have done so on many a time before that -

I didn't argue with you about the defence - just the striker issue - so once agin we're in confusion ally here :)

Let's just say 'arsebiscuits' to the whole things, shall we?

Zokora and Dawson are the weakest links... We need cover for centre backs badly!

I hate Zokora as a CM in a 442, but when we aren't playing against a side with a big physical striker (ie Heskey), he has been very good at CB. For example if we played Man Utd tomorrow with Rooney and Tevez upfront, I'd have complete confidence in Zokora. He was superb against Pompey and been good most other times he's been called upon to play there. Ideally I see him as a fullback, but against forwards who like the ball on the ground, Zokora is an excellent option at CB. Look how well he played in the 2006/7 season against Bolton after Keane got sent off and he dropped deep. Or againt Villa in the 4-4 at WHL, when we pushed the whole team forward but Zokora. Or in the 1-1 against Wham. When he plays at CB, because of his pace, we can push the defensive line so high up the pitch and therefore our midfield can really press the opposition. People judge him on his CM performances and therefore think he hasn't got the awareness to play CB, but that is because he has a terrible habbit of getting drawn to the ball and allowing opposition players into the hole. But that doesn't happen at CB. He only has to worry about what is going on infront of him.

Hi Triks - after that post I would suggest the universe you're in isn't the one I'm living in -

how do you know we're getting two strikers in - and to suggest we're effectively certainties for 5th is utter fantasyland

Tell you what - I'll give you 1 to 5 now we won't finish top 5 - that's way more generous than you're indicating - which is something of the order of 1 to 1,000

not gambling with you i already have blown my gambling money for this year potentially on my tRiKS predcitons thread.

Right if i'm not allowed to include strikers that may come in, you're not allowed to preclude ones that may go out.

The idea that our team won't finish ahead of everyone else below the top bastards is ridiculuous. Whats the piont of all this money and effort if we don't think were' at least 5th best? How can the "better" Ramos do worse than Jol with better players?

who's going to finish between us and 5th then DC?

The idea that we would sell Berbatov and be left with Bent and Pekhart is preposterous. That's all I have to say about that.

So in summary; our weakest point is lack of 2nd keeper, the defence, central midfield and no strikers.

yep i'd agree totally with that. we must be getting a new centre back and defensive midfielder. I think with keane leaving though they've had to address replacing him first and that has taken up some of the time when we could have been sorting deals out for these 2 positions

i personally feel we have a lack of height and strength.

As skillful and quick additions as Modric, dos Santos, Bentley and possibly Arshavin are, its going to make us very soft

I think the back 4 i okay, and Gomes should do well, personally the key to defending for us is the discipline of Jenas and Zokora

Hybrid mate, having just read how much Mr Jenas is relishing the idea of "bombing forward" this season, I think you may have hit upon a problem!

Sure there'll be a few more signings - can't wait to see who, and get the season moving!
