After his poor early keeping most goalkeepers would of looked shakey and had a nightmare after yesterdays game. however As a big critic of gomes in the past he deserves a big well done

heres my personal thoughts on gomes and i think some may be in agreement.
- He should of done better with that first goal no doubts.
- however he reedeemed himself with two world class penalty stops.
- He has made some wonderful stops this season and made 2-3 errors which is what a top class keeper makes in a season.
- To think he is part of the joint 2nd tightest defense in the league isnt just credit to our back 4 but also our goalkeeper.
Now iv critisied gomes but i cant take away what he went through and how hes overcame everything. well done

he still shouldnt of fucked up on the 1st goal

Gomes is 100% solid, he very rarely makes an error and I would say that in an ideal world he pushes that a bit wider and away from the danger area, but it wasn't poor keeping, it was one of those things.

I wouldn't swap Gomes for any keeper in the prem!

There's no doubt he could've done a bit better with the first goal, but he's been brilliant all season and made 2 excellent penalty saves, which unbelievably stopped Bent from the bragging rights of a hatrick against us.

There's only one or two better goalies in the league. Reina and Given are great goalies, Cech's nowhere near the goalie he was, same for VDS. Friedel's also good, but as mentioned above, i don't think I'd swap him for anyone in the Prem.

And I'd possibly let him shag my wife, despite not being married.

he could have done better for the first goal, but I think it's harsh to call it a mistake

a lot depends on the angle you see the save from, at one angle it looks like a good save, at another a poor pat out - but with the slippery ball, and i think it was his first touch of the game, i don't think it's a mistake

we should have been more focused at the start. it was a bit like the wolves game where they caught us cold from the set piece

we also missed Dawson terribly - he was the biggest absentee of all yesterday - and you can't help but feel, their first goal doesn't happen with Daws there

we may still have lost such was Sunderland's zeal yesterday, but then again etc etc

Those saying the first goal was a "mistake" by Gomes completely miss the fact that the defending was absolutely woeful leading upto the goal.

The 1st goal wasn't his mistake. You should never allow a player to get a free header right in front of goal like that. Unfortunately Walkers inexperience showed for that goal when he let his runner go. Gomes had to make a quick reaction save which unfortunately landed to Bent. You have to blame the defence in this situation. Not to mention the fact that we didn't have a player on the far post who could have blocked Bents effort.

To people criticising the first goal, try and also remember it's a split second thing and sometimes things just don't come off.

It's all well and good now to say yeah Gomes should have deflected it somewhere else but most of us have never player in goal plus had a split second situation like that.

Gomes is human after all, and also a bloody good goalkeeper.

But all good goalkeepers concede every now and then, sometimes right clangers too, goalkeepers such and Schmichael and van der Sar.

Love the guy, fantastic goalkeeper. Sometimes wish he would catch the ball rather than punch or palm it away, but wouldn't swap him.

While people are correct in saying the defence were at fault for the goal, it doesn't make any difference to the fact he should've done better, and I'm saying this as a massive, massive Gomes fan.

I'm not missing any point, if our defence let someone run through them from their own half, then that player got into a one on one with Gomes, then mis-hit his shot and sidefooted it right into Gomes at 2mph, then Gomes accidentally let it go through his legs for a goal, would it not still be everyone's fault? The fact is that he palmed out a reasonably weak header instead of catching it or pushing it safely away, but that's fine, it happens. The Walker penalty incident was completely different, he made a good save from a cracking shot. Bobby Gould kept saying he parried it badly, but he's a twat.

Like him or love him I believe he's the best goalie we've had since Pat Jennings and I hope he stays with us for many a year.

You what? This season I've never seen fewer shots at our goal in my lifetime of supporting Spurs.

When they do come though, there are few goalkeepers ahead of Gomes I'd have between the sticks.

Yeah a big credit where credit is due. That was the most disappointing aspect of yesterday's result, the big man saves two pens and the team still had no points to show for it. Well played HG.

There've been a lot of home games where he could have taken tea breaks.
