Just an update on the BBC live transfer ticker. Nothing we didn't know already:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TRANSFER LATESTBBC Sport'sBen Smithreports:"Liverpool have distanced themselves from reports claiming they have made a bid for Inter Milan playmaker Wesley Sneijder. The sums simply don't add up from Liverpool's point of view with the 28-year-old Dutchman earning around £90,000-per-week AFTER tax and Inter looking for an £8m transfer fee."

TRANSFER LATESTMore on Inter Milan playmakerWesley Sneijderfrom BBC Sport's Ben Smith: "Turkish club Galatasaray have already had a bid accepted for Sneijder but the player has indicated that does not want to join them. Inter had wanted the Holland international to take a pay cut on his current contract, but with the player not willing to accept reduced terms, the Italian club have decided to sell a player who only two years ago was considered among the very best in the world."

if it's £8million and 93k after tax I can't believe this isn't happening for us.

there's so much extra that comes with Sneijder over anybody else in terms of world recognition. If his play matches the others I do not get why this isn't a match made in heaven. Well except for the prima donna part.

It's clear Wesley wants to join the EPL... at least over Galatasaray.
But regardless, i still don't see it being us.

City or Chelsea could still look at this signing as someone who they could recoup the outlay in shirt sales, brand expansion and could risk the outlay. City I am not sure want to, but who knows with Chelsea and their desire at the moment to buy whomever they like.

Unless of course they are too busy chasing other targets.

But I just do not think DL will want to spend the kind of money both Sneijder and Inter still want to command, despite both wanting rid of each other.

we're perfect for him and vdv must have had a word. if it's anyone it's us. this is all over a levy signing if it happens and we can of course spread the payments over the next 25 years.

The only way I see it being us is if we are selling Bale for a lot of cash and it's agreed.
That way we can invest the cash now in advance and not have such a drop off in squad ability going forward and on top of it not struggle with clubs wanting us to hand over the Bale money for their players (like Modric money for Moutinho).

I could be wrong, football wise at least I tend to be, lol. :cautious:

I agree that this seems like a deal Levy will definitely want to do. He saw the impact VDV had and Sneijder is probably as similar a deal as you could possibly get to that VDV deal (thinking type of player, experience, impact on team performance, impact on club reputation and commercial sales, reduced price etc.)

But what this means is if we were to do it, it would most likely be deadline day again. Levy saw how the price came right down on deadline day with VDV as Real Madrid were desparate to get rid. Inter are in exactly the same boat and so IMO Levy will wait till lastminute.com for him no doubt to try to save a few more million on an already reduced price. With the player himself supposedly agreeable on a move to Spurs i'm still hopeful he could be ours come February 1st (y)

they also think they've got a top 4/premiership winning side mate

Whilst i agree with you, if they have ITK on the subject (not sure if they do on this), then i see no reason to disbelieve it any more than our own.

That being said I don't see Liverpool having the funds after already purchasing Sturridge.

fair shout mate, guess if we analyzed it enough it could be one of a few. the only question mark against us though (as always) is would levy see value in it this early in the window, even if his hand was forced by other clubs?

Yes indeed.
I don't think Levy insists on deadline day transfers, but there is certainly good reason to in these instances, where the price difference can make the difference between signing the player or not. After all... for all we know, Sneijder could be do-able if Inter accept say 4m instead of the 8 for example.

Yes we run the risk of losing him to another team (if we are in for him at all of course), but we can't magic money we don't have, so I do believe WS will be last minute if at all... even if we could somehow afford him now, the chance to save several million is something we should not lambast, especially as we laugh at Liverpool for over paying on players, even if it ensures they get them earlier on in a TW as we get our targets.
