Wesley Sneijder signs for Galatasaray

We would need him to score quite a few goals if you're getting rid of Ade. As Oshi pointed out yesterday, Snjeider hasn't scored more than 4 goals in a season for over 5 years. Not very good stats and brings this possible signing back down to earth with a bit of a bump for me. I know he's a midfielder but for the wages he's looking I'd be wanting the complete midfielder, and for me, a complete midfielder scores plenty of goals along the way.

Those stats don't take anything else into account though, ie games played, assists etc.

In the 09/10 season, although he only scored the 4 LEAGUE GOALS you mentioned, he only played 26 league games & got 8 assists along the way. I put LEAGUE GOALS in capitals because he also played 4 games in domestic cup competitions, bringing 1 more goal & 1 assist. He played 11 European matches, scoring 3 goals & getting 7 assists.. So in 41 total matches, he scored 8 goals & ended up with 16 assists..

In the 10/11 season, although he only scored 4 LEAGUE GOALS, he only played 25 games, finishing with 6 assists. He played 2 domestic cup games, got no goals but had 2 assists. 9 European matches brought 3 goals & 2 assists. So a total of 39 games brought 7 goals & 11 assists...

In the 11/12 season, Although he only scored 4 LEAGUE GOALS, he only played 20 league games, bringing 4 goals & 5 assists. Over-all in that season, he played 28 games, bringing 6 goals & 9 assists...

Then in the 12/13 season, 3 league games, 1 goal, 1 assist. 3 European games, 1 goal, 2 assists.. A total of 6 games bringing 2 goals & 3 assists......


What all of that says to me is that he's one VERY consistent player. And if we add all of those goals & assists together, what we're left with is a player who has been directly responsible for/involved with the scoring of 61 goals in his last 4 seasons, or 114 matches taken part in (Not necessarily started or finished)... It's just my opinion, but I don't see how such a player would not be contributing to the goal count?

Question is though do we really need him, would he get enough game time?

We all know he is a special player and personally Id love if we get him and would really show that we are becoming a bigger club, not just in England but Europe. I just don't see it happening, although stranger things have happened... I remember the shock of getting Edger Davids!

You could well be right. I was simply attempting to add a little insight for 'thenickh'.. But now that tobi has just posted the above info about his followers, the guy is either legit, or we're not too far away from Oliver Kay & Dan Roan being the latest high profile personalities to be on the news for kiddie fiddling..

But it was still a big name signing really, in terms of names since...well probably Ginola or Klinsmann. Was a shock for me hearing that we got him anyways... did not say I was massively pleased or that he was past his best did I?!

So the fee that's wanted for Sneijder is €8m. I don't see it as being a big risk by giving him a three year deal on 70 grand a week, and a 3.2m signing on bonus to make it up to the 90 grand a week he wants. So that's a total amount of around 20m for a player who was considered world class only a year ago and potentially could take us to the next level playing in AVBs preferred 4-3-3 formation. It should have Daniel Levy all over it like a rash! So I can only guess AVB doesn't see him fitting in. Sorry if my numbers are out, only going on what I've read.
