I think i heard some story about him getting in for free for years, until one day a steward asked him where his ticket was and he said he didn't need one, and they said well you're not allowed in. This maybe be untrue, but its what i heard.

I heard the same, but I think it was posted on here. I think he should get in free........

.......as long as he doesn't sit near me!

The story is true.
It wasnt just him though there was 3 or 4 getting in that way.

how did he manage to get in for free?!

I would imagine because he would get the chants and atmosphere going - I heard he was given a complimentary season ticket.

I remember the game against Sevilla in the UEFA cup a few years ago when we were 2-0 down but came back to 2-2, he was banging that drum for the entire second half and the crowd didn't stop chanting "martin jols blue and white army" for about half an hour. That was probably the best atmosphere i've seen at the lane.

Someone like that is essential to get the atmosphere up to its best so it's sad he's not around anymore.

He didnt have a ticket full stop.
He used to get tickets off of friends etc but as they became harder to come by he realised he didnt need one anyway. The drum was kept in an office somewhere and he was never questioned. The drum is still there as far as i know.
Perhaps he just got caughtout by trying to get others in as well.
The original drummer was the best. Hello Nick!!!

Right in the corner of block 31, next to the tv studio.
No seats there to worry about and as everybody tends to stand up anyway...

To be honest I've been pretty impressed with the atmosphere this season at the Lane, haven't noticed the absence of the drummer. The Twente game was superb, and for a fairly run of the mill Saturday 3pm yesterday was pretty good.

It's almost as if since VDVs comments about our fans we've been determined to keep it up.

I like the guy with the hooter in Paxton who blasts it whenever the oppo goalie kicks the ball - but haven't heard him for a while either.

Maybe if the drums at the ground anyway, we should take it in turns to get the Lane pumping. Although I'd only start using the drum when the stewards are telling me to sit down...

The drummer was there against Villa...he was banging it, not that often, but definitely there!

Mate I am 99 per cent sure it was just someone banging on a hoarding or a screen of some kind. I was in 32 and heard it and thought the same, but it wasn't quite as consistent a sound as a drum.

It wasn't the drummer at the Villa game, but as invictaspur says was someone banging on the metal panels at the back of the south upper.
