If we're all honest, right now no-one (ourselves included) really believes Spurs are challenging for the title. It feels like we're very slightly short of the mark. A statement win at Anfield would change that.
I'm not sure we're short of the mark - we could well finish with a points total that would win a title in many previous seasons, Chelsea are performing something quite remarkable under Conte though, that's the nub of it.

A full week to lick their wounds with Klopp firing them up, under the lights....
First half could be torture.

We're going to need to be seriously disciplined, committed and composed under pressure to walk away with anything imo.

Expect a very fast start from them and I really hope we don't gift them an early goal.

If we withstand the early pressure we've a chance.

One of those nights you just can't afford passengers or any hiding.

Liverpool won't be setting up with 5 at the back and 3 in front of them to try to stifle us like Sunderland and Boro. They will have to come out and play and I think that will suit us. Their only form of defence is attack. If Lucas plays at CB it suits us IMO.

See your point but we were saying that against city.

We will need to be on our "A" game to beat them

I hope we've learnt from the City game. Fucking about with the ball at the back against a fired up Klopp team pressing like nutters is a recipe for disaster imo.

We may need to be a bit more direct for this one. Horses for courses and all that.

Indeed. The reason why Liverpool do better against the top sides, is because the top sides come out and play and that leaves the room for them to exploit when they turn on the uber press.

Conversely they stuggle against defensive sides who congest the space and sit deep.

The blueprint for this one is so obvious imo. We should set up to contain and frustrate and play on the counter. And we do have the players for it, we can transition quickly when the right passes are executed.

We're on course for 79 points, a PL record for us. Over the last 12 seasons had we attained that total it would have resulted in a finish of:

04-05: 3rd
05-06: 4th
06-07: 3rd
07-08: 4th
08-09: 4th
09-10: 3rd
10-11: 2nd, 1 pt off top
11-12: 3rd
12-13: 2nd
13-14: 4th or 5th depending on GD - likely 4th above Arsenal's +27
14-15: 2nd or 3rd - likely 3rd behind City's +45 GD
15-16: 2nd, 2 pts off top

However imo a points total of that magnitude is more impressive in this than many previous seasons - there is far more depth of quality the whole way down the league as opposed to just a fantastic top 4.

Yes that blueprint has been set by Swansea, Wolves, Hull and it's to sit back, frustrate and ride out the storm. We are better defensively than all those teams so we are more than capable.

If we go toe-to-toe with Liverpool we may play into their hands, we need patience and to be clinical when the chance arrives. The onus is on Liverpool here. Got a hunch for an Alli winner for some reason.

These comparisons always make me chuckle. It is easy to say that with 79pts we would have finished in ?? position in the ??/?? Season. What that doesn't take into account is the points that we have taken off the potential winners.

The higher points that we score is directly proportional to the points that other teams attain, therefore the more points we get at the end of the season, the less (potentially) the eventual winners and those around us achieve.

Is a reasonable guide but never a true benchmark.

That's not entirely true. A lot of our defence is attack. We've conceded very few shots on target due largely to the fact we keep possession at the other end of the pitch.
In this game our defence will come under much more sustained pressure.
We saw in games against City and Chelsea away and even West Ham at home that we can make mistakes when under the koshb and concede goals.
