I don't really blame Vertonghen - I, like most people will, have experienced working a team where your manage is a complete prat, and the senior member of your team is also a complete lettuce.

The fact that the squad hasn't changed too much, but the mood has, will most definitely be down to the hierarchy. The job of a captain is to try and lift the team when they need a boost and, unfortunately, Dawson tried to on many occasion but just isn't a patch on Hugo/Jan. You've got to respect the guy with the armband, believe in him and - some times - be scared of him. Daws was a fantastic servant to the club, but I don't think he was the best captain we have had.

Maybe, but in football it's about the entitlement to go down - some might see it as helping the referee. No prizes for being a gent.

I absolutely blame Vertonghen for his behavior. I worked under prats while i was managing others and i never acted like brat.

Its understandable that acted like he did last year but that doesnt mean to say acting like that is not what i would expect a guy vying for captaincy to do. Its the complete opposite of what i would expect a captain to do.

I would much rather have someone lead by example than have someone who isnt able to keep their cool and who cant control their negative emotions about the manager when they are on the pitch

You're assuming he was a brat.

He might just not have been very happy. That doesn't make him a brat, or at fault.

Who wouldn't want a captain like what Roy Keane was? No one wins trophies by being kind and chummy.

Well, we've never booed the minute's silence for Hillsborough (although some of our fans chanted from the concourse throughout it last year sadly), and not sure how anyone could describe what we do as anti-football. Nor Chelsea this season - I hate them but Hazard is brilliant to watch and Fabregas is equally impressive. Even when we're not playing well and lack cutting edge we still play large chunks of the game in the opponents' half!

People still haven't gotten the memories of 2012 out of their heads when they just parked the bus they rode to the final win. Last year wasn't much better as they played counter-attacking football with lumps in midfield, but this year they've entirely changed with the introduction of Fabregas. Brilliant buy for them, as much as it loathes me.

Working with Liverpool fans, and having a few in the family, has shown me that Liverpool fans are quite a lot like Newcastle fans once were. Individually they can appear quite rational (although there is always a bias and a real reluctance to credit other teams). However, whereas a group of Newcastle fans would simply bounce off each other's irrational optimism without hurting anyone but themselves, put a few Liverpool fans together and their biased, arrogant distorted view of the world rapidly snowballs and within a couple of minutes they've convinced themselves that it doesn't matter where they finish in the league because whoever finishes top will hand the title over to them simply because they are Liverpool, and its rude and completely disrespectful of any other team to dare to even challenge for it.
Couldn't agree more.
I'm surrounded by the blinkered twats and they have made me hate that club.

Labradaws was an excellent captain and a top geez.

You could see by the way Jan embraced Daws after the Hull game that he has a lot of respect for him.

Miss his smile.

Now we've got Fazio.
What's wrong with Fazio? He's been a lot more solid than Dawson was last season.

A few months ago some gormless-looking Liverpool fan sat down at the table next to me in a pub and got into a conversation with some other random guy (who he didn't know) about football. For some reason the discussion turned to Real Madrid, at which point gormless Liverpool twat chimed in with "and that Gareth Bale is doing quite well for them, which is weird because he wasn't really that good at Spurs."

At which point I leaned over to the guy he was talking to and said "mate, you might want to find someone else to talk to. This guy clearly hasn't got a fucking clue about football."

Very out of character for me, but there's something about the combination of arrogance and ignorance of the average Liverpool fan that makes me want to slap them down.

Yeah, he looked solid as a rock in that Hull game.

He's alright I just miss Daws and don't really think Fazio is much better, if he is there ain't too much in it, IMO.

The lower league teams love to give it all that about being hard as nails but the way that sheffield player went down when Jan grabbed him was up there with Seire A or la liga
Dembele didn't cover himself in glory either, writhing around holding his face after it was brushed by a hand. I think some of the footballers should be put in a ring for 3 minutes with Amir Khan and then they'd know what being hit is all about.

The funniest thing about this is that we've rattled Chelsea with that 5-3 win. So much so that they want JV banned for something pretty innocuous.
It was an idiotic thing to do and JV could have seen red. Would you think the same if Suarez or Costa did it to Harry?

So? You can't pick out one game and use that to prove your point.

When did football fans get so offended by a bit of blood and thunder? Diving, biting, spitting, racism etc well that's fair enough as it's scummy but a bit of fight is all good in my book.

What did he do to behave like a brat?

Last year? Chelsea game was one example - his on and off the ball behavior with Torres was child like. The first game vs Man City he was charging around like a bull in a china shop getting himself into trouble and being overly aggressive in the tackle.

Im sure there were other instances.

would never have seen Daws or Ledly do that.

Verts other recent one was when he thought one of the attacking players was offside which caused him to lose his shit, chase after the player with the ball for 20 yards then just half the guy when the ball was long gone, sliding and then managing to get back to his feet in one motion in order to run at the referee and give him a gobful.

Think it was Palace. Was completely idiotic of him but for some reason made me laugh

Mate, let's not pretend that was the only game he's been gash in. I mentioned the hull game because Dawson was playing as well, and performed much better.

Anyway, not the thread this etc etc.

I miss Dawson too, it doesn't seem right seeing him play for Hull. It's strange but with Hudd and Livermore there too they've almost become like a second team where I'm disappointed when they lose.

Thinking about it, did Daws burn down Archway? Levy might have sent him away like Michael Corleone to Sicily in the Godfather but one day he'll return to run the whole operation.

I think he's much worse when he doesn't play with JV.

Similar to Mertesacker- when he plays with Koscielny, he's a beast, with anyone else, he's not that good.

You also have to remember that Dawson has been playing English football for ages, whereas Fazio's only been here for 5 months.

You ever thought that some times it's a damn good tactic that defenders employ? Scaring or putting off an opposing striker can be the difference between losing and winning.

You're also completely missing the point that Torres was completely out of order.

Mourinho said: “The player had his hands on his face, pretending there had been a violent action. The player was not helping the referee.”

"Pretending" Jose?....

I can guarantee that Chelsea are rattled by Jan (re: Sheff Utd incident) because they blame him for Torres getting sent off. If they're scared of him playing, that's good in my books.

I have seen Daws charge round like a bull in a china shop, throwing himself into tackles (missing man and ball) and we shouldn't compare anyone to King, it's just not fair, he was 1 in a billion.

The Chelsea game he wound Torres up and got him sent off, we need a bit more of that ****iness in our team.

Any way, I don't see either of these are acting like a brat.
