I don't really blame Vertonghen - I, like most people will, have experienced working a team where your manage is a complete prat, and the senior member of your team is also a complete lettuce.
The fact that the squad hasn't changed too much, but the mood has, will most definitely be down to the hierarchy. The job of a captain is to try and lift the team when they need a boost and, unfortunately, Dawson tried to on many occasion but just isn't a patch on Hugo/Jan. You've got to respect the guy with the armband, believe in him and - some times - be scared of him. Daws was a fantastic servant to the club, but I don't think he was the best captain we have had.
Maybe, but in football it's about the entitlement to go down - some might see it as helping the referee. No prizes for being a gent.
I absolutely blame Vertonghen for his behavior. I worked under prats while i was managing others and i never acted like brat.
Its understandable that acted like he did last year but that doesnt mean to say acting like that is not what i would expect a guy vying for captaincy to do. Its the complete opposite of what i would expect a captain to do.
I would much rather have someone lead by example than have someone who isnt able to keep their cool and who cant control their negative emotions about the manager when they are on the pitch
