I would go further and say based on any game no matter how long they played in said match. I remember some writing players off after just minutes of watching them.
Thing is would any of us sign Kane or Son now based on his world cup so far?

The microphones at this World Cup. Even a 2 yard pass sounds like it’s being hammered.

I'd sign kane, master assists. Stick him in an attacking spurs line up with runners either side of him and watch the goals and assists come. ?

Yeah the overvaluing of one game of football in general annoys me. particularly in the world cup, every game apparently tells us who is good who is not, which teams are rubbish which are okay etc. Take a random sample of 7 games and and performances and form from both players and teams will vary.

Kane for his link up play absolutely. Sonny? Not so much, but he has been out of form all season and just came back from a facial injury. But you can't base it off a tournament. Didn't we sign Sissoko off the back of one?

More than likely been highlighted before, but the penalty in the France v Poland game really grinds my gears. The 'run up and fancy jump/stop' really pots the goalkeeper at a unfair disadvantage. If, like Lloris, the keeper starts shifting his weight before the 'jump/stop' anticipating the shot, whilst keeping one foot on the line, he stands no chance of stopping the movement before the ball is kicked. If the penalty is scored nothing is wrong. If the keeper does save it, the penalty gets retaken for 'goalkeeper infringement'.

Rule should be changed so that if the penalty taker stops or jumps in his run up, the keeper doesn't get penalised for moving early. Otherwise every penalty taker will stop/jump in the run up knowing they can't lose. Might as well just award a goal and save everyone's time

Punditry and media putting way too much focus on refereeing decisions, resulting in fans doing the same.

For days now there have been posts about the ball possibly being out in the Japan game which "knocked Germany out of the World Cup." No, losing to Japan and failing to beat Spain knocked Germany out.

It's just constant.

Not seen this particular one but I’d ban the stuttered run up. They’re just so annoying and like you say it’s an unfair advantage that almost forced the keeper to move off his line too quickly, if the player scores this isn’t a problem but when they miss they get another chance. Just doesn’t seem fair at all.

I think you have to remember what the point of penalties are in the first place. I'm not saying you are right or wrong, but the advantage should always be for the attacker.

It should, but a free shot from 12 yards should be enough of an advantage. I feel like the stutter is even more of an advantage in the age of VAR because the keeper will almost always get caught off the line.

The high school system has their own rulebooks here in the US. To be fair it's mostly come into line with the laws of the game except for a couple of big things. But one change I've liked is on PKs. It says you can stutter but not stop in the run up. You must always keep forward motion going.

It's a fair compromise IMO.

That was the Fifa wide rule for a long time. Not sure why it changed tbh.

The constant fawning over Messi by all pundits and commentators.

I get it, he's possibly the best player of all time, certainly one of the two best players of a generation. But the constant gushing about how amazing he is - for example, his goal against Australia the other day was described as "a moment of magic" by the commentator. Danny Murphy was creaming himself the entire game over anything Messi did. It was a bog standard finish and the 'keeper should have stopped (but what else can you expect from Arsenals number 2?!). They just need to tone it down about him.

To be fair it’s likely his last World Cup so they’re just soaking it in.

Graeme Souness talking shite non stop now that grinds my gears. I actually used to not mind his punditry and I’ve even met him and he’s a nice guy but the last few years he’s just turned into a grumpy old man and offers nothing.

Oh and also Alison’s shaven ? face grinds my gears, he looks so odd, get that beard ?‍♂️ back at once ?

Roy Keane. Terrible pundit. Just the other day, he went on about Brazil and its celebrations. I personally love it; so joyful and fun! It is part of their culture to celebrate every goal.

What follows Roy's comments is a bunch of joy kills who will say shit like "I agree with Roy" or "Roy speaks his mind". Like fuck off, you melt; there is a joy to scoring a goal, so why not celebrate? You can still dance and be respectful to your opponents.

I read about one brazillian pundit who summed it up...... he said Keane cannot express his happiness, that is it.

He is miserable and he wants to share it with the world.

No surprise he doesn't understand dancing. To him everything is a lack of respect, closed minded.

Roy Keane is stuck in the past and is only on for his "controversial" opinions. He shouldn't be a pundit in 2022. He is always miserable and puts people down when there is zero reason to do so. Can't stand him.
