I did consider a new thread but just wondered what people thought about Tim's thought:

“I will take desire over ability every day”.

I know this is crazy (agreeing with Tim) but I personally agree. There are alot of special players but to really make the grade you need the right 'mentality'.

I cant recall having so many players with a bit of grit about them. They aren't only home grown but are also driven. What do you think ?

I do agree with Tim that people need to have the mental toughness to succeed....really, who doesn't agree with that?

Tim's issue with us was that he didn't know (to be fair, still not sure if he does yet) how to get that passion, or as he phrased it "blood and thunder", out of the (a) squad.

Keep in mind last season with us.....think about how many times last season all the Spurs fans were saying that the team lacked drive and fight? Tim seemed to be saying it every week in his interviews.

Yet with essentially with the exact same squad this season, Poch has the squad playing with the passion and drive that Tim was constantly bitching about and saying that the squad didn't have.

So how does Poch accomplish getting the players to play with passion when Tim (with essentially the same group of players) was unable to do so?.....personally i think it is because Tim was unable to do the single most important part of being a manager....Tim was unable to get the players to think they were in a position to succeed when they were on the pitch, whatever Tim was selling the squad sure as hell wasn't buying. Maybe it was how he did it, maybe it was that he was in over his head, maybe they never saw Tim as a real manager....but whatever it was, the squad never fully bought into what Tim was saying. It's hard to be truly passionate about what you are doing when you have no confidence in the decisions being made by the boss.

Poch, for whatever gripes people may have with him, seems to have the players bought into what he is preaching. They play with passion and confidence, the players talk about the belief and confidence they have in Poch's system when they speak (which they never did last season under Tim).....It seems like the players are feeling like Poch is putting them in a position to succeed when they are on the pitch. That confidence is leading to more comfort and belief, more comfort and belief is leading to players approaching the job with more passion and suddenly the squad is playing with the "blood and thunder" Tim was begging for last season....just for another manager.

I will take desire over ability every day”. Obviously, the ability can’t be too low. But if you have the ability — and he has — you’ll make it if you have desire.

Lol, Jesus he's a walking cliche.

His win percentage will be up to 50% if it stays the same won't it? Tim obviously just has the magic touch.
