Found this video on another forum. Skip to about 3:10, there are three or four tackles that would warrant a red card in the modern game within the space of about 20 seconds. Crazy to think how much the game has changed in just 15 years. I miss proper football.

agree, its a non contact sport now

I got really annoyed with people at the weekend on the Torres 2nd yellow saying Evans brushed him so that slight contact meant it was a foul, what a load of bollocks, does that mean every time someone brushes another player its a foul, do these people ever watch what happens in the box during set plays ???

If anything a less physical game suits our style of football. I just find it piss poor to watch and prefer crunching, whole hearted challenges, with as much continuity in the game as possible.

It probably needs to change if only just to stop the thinly veiled homoerotic comments by Tony Pulis about proper men smashing into each other, rutting like stags, like real men, then shaking each other's real man hands and getting on with trying to find the next real man to smash into..baseball caps.. real men.. shower time.. men smashing into men...men..real men..showers of men..

I've heard that Tony Pulis showers with the team after games. Bizarre.

Also very noticeable that none of the players tackled rolled around screaming causing a 3-4 minute stoppage while they get "treated".

There is one tackle where the guy goes straight over the ball, and not even a free kick is given. In my opinion, allowing tackles like that, doesn't do any good for football. I agree we are now at a stage where any slide tackle is lucky to escape a yellow card, but I think there must be a happy medium between the two.
