I prefer the way we are. The margins are quite fine at this level. There will always be points dropped. Look at Liverpool drawing to Sunderland. West Brom are a very well drilled side and our fans and players must respect that.

Nothing has backfired, the question still remains, that's the point. :p

Ok but in that case, you received the answer several times already in the last few pages - it's really simple, the fan's mentalities will change when the team actually achieves something by winning a trophy or not bottling the end of a season leading to finishing below their arch rivals - again.

The question's fine, but the answer is there, and it's the only one.

My probably-on-the-pessimistic-side-but-then-I-started-in-the-1995/96-season-so-can-you-really-blame-me mentality will change when I see us finish above Arsenal in the league... a feat which I haven't yet seen in my 20 years as a Spurs fan.

Until such time I will always hope for the best but prepare for the Spurs.

He thinks the teams mentality has changed (heard that before tbf) not that the supporters mentality has.

Yeah it's nice to hear, but you're right in that we've heard sound bites like this many times over the last 7/8years.

There was a sign of a more mature performance against Chelsea, but as far as a whole season and real achievement goes words are cheap. It's the doing which will ultimately change players and fans mentalities alike.

Yeah he doesn't bear the scars from the past I guess.

I guess. Really, if you want my answer to your question, the fans mentality has changed in relation to what it was say in the 90s. A lot of the problem with the atmosphere at the Lane is that there's a good portion of fans who have become to greedy. They expect to win every game. This kinda implies that there has been a big shift in a sizeable portion of our fan base mentality but that's looking at the stadium support and not on line which I think you might be doing?

Personally, I remember becoming a lot more positive as a fan in the Jol era and it's changed again with this new team. Back in the Jol days I knew we could mix it with the big boys but always seemed to be on the cusp of winning something but never quite doing it. Now we're even better and our 3rd place finish last season (should've been 2nd obviously- I won't go into that now as I'm still pissed off about it but it does link to this as it was such a Spurs bottle job, to our closet rivals no less which obviously had an effect on some supporters outlook in upcoming seasons) shows that we can mix it up even higher up the table (though it's worth noting that it was a bit of a weird season last year) and we have some outstandingly talented players.

So yeah, my mentality has changed from what it was when I was 10 (not intellectually wise though) and it's changed again since the Jol days but has it changed to the point where I expect to win shit every year or even get top 4 every year? No. it will when we start winning shit and getting top 4 every year. Until then I'm confident going into most games as I know we can beat anyone on our day but yeah, I guess as you say those scars are still there. Some are quite new like last season.

So... when will our mentality change?

I'm going to suggest - until we win something. I said it before and it still holds true - all our good football and running the leaders close will count for nothing until we can actually win something.

The team continue to demonstrate that they're not capable of doing that at the moment. That's what needs to change before the fans can.

Whilst in some terms I agree, you can't blame the players today. They were great and whilst we made a few mistakes, Chelsea were ultra-clinical.

Hugo sets his wall up properly and doesn't take that step to his right, he saves that free kick. Son doesnt slide in, it's not a penalty, if Matic doesn't hit the ball cleaner than he ever will in off the angle, the free kick from Kane doesn't somehow defy physics and go in, the game is completely different. All "ifs and buts" but it's not a mentality issue.

If that matic goal hadn't gone in I'd have fancied us to come back again, and I haven't been able to say that about a spurs team before. Don't let that wonder goal cloud your judgement. If that goes in against any side in the world to make it 4-2 with less than 10 minutes left, it's over.

The real test will now be weds night.

Our job as fans is to support the team and sing our songs for 90 mins each week!

The players and the coach' job is to gain the right mentality and qualty. How do you do that?
By improving every day and Get used to pressure and winning - It takes time and babysteps.

Look ar dortmund - they had an awful spell over several years, but the fans stood by them.

Barca was humiliated in the Champions league - their fans were great!

Let's not turn into Liverpool who believe IT is their their right to win games and titles and don't even know who they are playing against...
