Where have all the tackles gone...?

A shirt pull is no different to deliberately tripping someone to stop a counter attack. If it's not a goal scoring opportunity then it's a yellow. It's simple.

Just because we are saying it's a yellow doesn't mean we are saying we defend cheating, as we are saying they should get punished. We just apply some sense to what we say and can see a simple shirt pull isn't a red, it's a yellow.

Not using it as an excuse.

Ultimately the point is that the dark arts or 'cheating' as you put it is creeping more and more into the game and if anyone thinks they can fully stamp it out the game by handing out red cards then they are deluding themselves.

Even if I accept the fact that cheating is creeping more and more into the game, how exactly do we stop it, and what sort of game are we going to be watching in say, five or even ten years time?

Or maybe we should just accept the never ending downward spiral and admit we can't stop it, but why the hell should we pay small fortunes just to watch 90 minutes of persistent and consistent cheating?

I did laugh yesterday when Mark 'Nobes' Noble tried to smash into Kane but was predictably a yard off the pace and Kane barely had to break strike to avoid the challenge, before taking a heavy touch and losing it, and it was then called back for a foul. It seemed very soft, but highly amusing to see the west ham players get wound up.

That Noble effort of trying to do Kane was a shocker and should have been a straight red, whether or not he touched him

The yellow cards that players pick up these days are nothing short of a joke most of the time. It's the Noble challenges that need stamping out but he was hardly even spoken to!!

Having grown up in the 60's and 70's during the hey day of Norman Hunter, Chopper Harris, Peter Storey and Tommy Smith, all c*nts by the way, I can tell you, seeing tackling reduce is not a bad thing.

Surely there is a massive difference between a waist high Kung fu kick which happened half a dozen times during most games back in the day and someone pulling someone's shirt, kicking the ball away 5 yards or even laying a finger enywhere near an opponents face.

All it needs is a lot more common sense and for the Refs to be able use there own judgement with the help of another Ref looking at a TV monitor

The non contact game these days is pretty much a joke. Tackles and the odd foul make for a much more interesting game
