Where it is going wrong!

Sorry if this has been said elsewhere, however, I need to see if it is just me that feels this or the rest of you as well???

Where it is going wrong for me is simple!!

Formation….. 442!!! Why this 41311 even at home to Wigan!!!

All it needs is:

A solid keeper we have I think two!

A good defending left back and right back…. Two old school centre halves!

A good left and right winger, a ball winner to be complimented with a more creative midfielder.

A hold up striker and then a typical poacher!

All this continental style of football is crap and not working…. We don’t have the right squad for it and it hasn’t worked all season, we are only where we are in the league because other teams around us haven’t been consistent.

United today got it tactically absolutely spot on, 442 with if you take Rooney and RVP out is for me the weakest team in the top 4, but because they were drilled well it looked easy at times.

The frustrating thing for me is we probably have the players to operate a 442!

Today the only weakness should have been Walker who is a very attacking right back that leaves his CB exposed, which makes Gallas look poorer than what he actually is. However we should have been able to play him against Wigan as they had nothing down that side.

Today it could have been:

Lloris

Walker Gallas Dawson Vert
Lennon Sandro Dempsey Bale
Ade Defoe

I half agree, but you put Dempsey in midfield, thats like, just not on.

Edit: And Caulker over Gallas personally.

AVB has done some good stuff this season but he's also being very stubborn with some of the players he continues to persist with even though we have others waiting in the wing who would clearly improve the team.

Dempsey only in today because Dembele not fit... But Dembele would be my choice along with Parker instead of Sandro. As well I would be tempted to play BAE and Vertonghan in place of Gallas

I think its safe to say injuries has a major part to play & some of AVBs decisions.

We're just not good enough in the middle of the park to have 2 in there, with 2 out and out wingers. The only 2 central midfielders worth a dollar are unfortunately injured. And I dont think they will be back soon either.

tbh im blaming the fans

lane is so quiet we have become arrogant expect to be rolling teams over not getting behind the team at all then turning on players straight away our team is scared of making a mistake because the fans are on there back straight away its getting crazy.

Just so frustrated I honestly think we are missing a massive opportunity to get back in the champions league bcause teams around us are so inconsistent and we have the squad to play the formation that is needed in games like today i am not saying that away to chelsea or man city we should play it but against wigan at home?? Come on!

When he's switched part way through a game, like the QPR match, to something more like 4-4-2 we've been instantly, obviously and substantially better. Why can't he see this and start the game like it?
Until he does we will continue playing poorly at home in this set up.

Everyone last season criticised Harry for playing 4-4-2, now this year AVB is being criticised for not playing 4-4-2.

It's sad because I don't think AVB will ever win everyone over and that will ultimately be his downfall. It must feel like him vs the world, and the people who are supposed to be supporting him, just boo every home game

i asked the same question a couple of weeks back was met with quite a bit of negativity - http://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/index.php?threads/is-it-time-to-go-4-4-2.91425/

since last season we have lost(sold or injured) our top 5 ball players - ekotto, parker, modric, vdv, ade. they topped just about every passing statistic in our team. people on here are trying to press a possession based formation on a team currently whose only threat going forward is of a counter-attack variety. the players in our team are currently built for direct pace based attacks.

last season we ranked 5th in the premier league with average possession each game of 56.3%, this season we are 10th averaging 49.3%. so why not play to our strengths? ofcourse injuries have affected us and away to city and arsenal i wouldn't be going 442 but some games such as wigan at home require it.

The players don't care. They really don't. AVB isn't helping but regardless the players aren't putting in the effort on the pitch.

The only one that can hold his head high is Sandro. How he must feel seeing his colleagues coast along while he puts his heart, soul and body on the line for the club. The second he came off, we noticed.

We can't play 442 because neither Ade or dopey Defoe will drop enough to help out in midfield. Other teams will just out number us in this area.

Man Utd get away with it because Rooney constantly drops off into midfield to receive the ball and also presses really well from the front.

ade drops off all around the pitch? i don't see dempsey helping anything.

No creative quality in the middle of the pitch. Not with Dembele out anyway and even with him fit, we're short. Selling VDV if we had no replacement was fatal. Most said it at the time. The days of Zok and JJ still lingering in our minds.

The TW has fucked us hard. The one area we couldn't afford to weaken if the chairman and high ups wanted a genuine push for the top 4 and it was decimated.
