Which EPL icon do you wish we had signed?

Sheikh Mansour:)
Roman Abramovic has brought Chelsea - 3 league titles (about to lift their fourth) a CL and a Europa league title, 4 FA cups and 2 League cups (I think)

Compared to the 2 league titles, and FA cup and a League cup (as far as I can remember)

I know which of the two I'd have preferred

signing most of the 90s icons is pretty pointless as they would have left after a couple of seasons anyway.

In that regard it would be more beneficial for us to have signed either Suarez or Hazard because at the time we were so close to competing it might have just be the kick we needed to be CL regulars or maybe title challengers. What might have been!

Bergkamp for me, I think he was Arsenal's best striker they've had too. He was an amazing player, rumour has it he used to be a Spurs fan but he'd never admit it due to being at Arsenal. He didn't seem to fear anyone or oppoisition, just the flying!!

In recent years it would have to be Hazard wouldn't it? He's publicly admitted being in talks to sign for us, and if we'd had him and Bale on the wings, well, everything could have gone a whole lot differently.
Yes, we could have sold both to Real Madrid

I know we did sign him, but I can´t be the only one wishing we got Davids earlier? But of players we didn´t sign, I´d say Bergkamp.

I'll go with a more recent player as a lot of the best from the past have been covered - Robben.

Magnificent player.

To be fair, we had a team with Bale (most expensive player in the world ever), Modric (world class), King (world class when he played), Adebayor (when he was good) and VDV (world class in flashes of brilliance), and we still didn't manage to qualify for the CL, so I'm not sure a single player would do too much extra for the club.

That said, would go for Roy Keane or Stevie Gerrard

We should have done better. Harry fecking Redknapp decided that Peter fecking Crouch improved that lot.
Both got sacked.

He is the natural choice, the one that immediately sprang to mind to me - because of the key role he played in Arsenal's reemergence as a dominate force under Wenger

He was also a Spurs fan prior to signing for Arsenal - well mostly a Hoddle fan but still Spurs were a club I am sure he held affection for and would have loved to play for

While I respect others who say one player probably wouldn't have been enough to make a difference - and that is probably true because Bergkamp was but one cog in Wenger's machine and indeed Wenger was the most important cog - but I do think the Bergkamp signing came at quite a pivotal time

Ourselves and Arsenal were at something of a cross road, we'd had excellent success with Jurgen and had we signed Bergkamp we may have been able to build upon that instead of wasting more money on Fox and Armstrong and a string of useless managers which left us spinning round in circles while Arsenal went to the top

I don't think Bergkamp would have magically made us as good as Arsenal became because Francis was no Wenger and the tactical skills and his skills in the transfer market built their success but I do think history could have been a lot different had Sugar not refused to sign imported players at such a key time and we been afforded the chance to build on the short term (near) success we had when Jurgen played with us

Bergkamp for me too.

I was listening to a Spurs podcast where a Spurs journalist said an agent asked him if he could put in a good word with Gerry Francis about Bergkamp as he was keen to come to London and would love to play for Spurs. Francis did consider him but in the end he decided Bergkamp didn't score enough goals and he turned the offer down. Francis bought the prolific Chris Armstrong instead.....

Chris Waddle after he left Marseille and Eric Cantona.
It does infuriate me that we didn't move for Waddle on his return to England

I only ever saw one season of him playing for us before he left but for that season he was my hero and probably to this day my all time favourite player (loved him in Italia 90 too even though he'd left Spurs)

Personally I feel Bergkamp whilst a very good player would not have been a good fit for spurs at the time he was available.

Bergkamp was a no.10 who played off the centre forward, we had someone just as good in Sheringham at the time (who I would have taken over Bergkamp of choosing between the two) and they would not have been a good partnership as both need a centre forward to work off.
