I think it’s fair to say bar a few posters our collective knowledge on the new players is limited to write ups and YouTube videos. However, wet have this summer signed 5 new players with their best years ahead of them, 4 of whom we hope will have a direct impact on the coming season.

Gollini, The first choice goalkeeper of lesser Italian club Atalanta who boast a sole Coppa Italia win half a century ago amongst their honours. In his time as number 1 they have finished 3rd in Serie A for 3 consecutive seasons, the best period in the clubs history. His reputation is that his strengths lie in his reflexes and is good off his line, as well as being a comfortable passer of the ball, but like so many modern goalkeepers may struggle on crosses.

Emerson, who enjoyed the briefest stint imaginable at Barcelona, has come in as Betis first choice right back of the past two seasons. Aggressive, great in the air, a powerful runner and schooled in quick, one touch football, he isn’t necessarily eye pleasing but he offers a good cross and in fact it’s only outdone by Jordi Alba in assists from full back during his time in Spain.

Romero, the much vaunted solution to our leaky defence. Another aggressive player, the Serie A defender of the year and Copa America winning Argentinian loves stepping out of defence, has great recovery pace and early indications are that he’s comfortable in possession, both with his passing but also in bringing the ball out.

Sarr, loaned back to Metz to continue developing, is a Senegal international at just 18 and appears to have a complete skillet. Powerful, great control, quick and adept at both tackling and passing, there appears to exist the potential to dominate midfield for a long time. In what position still seems to be up for debate as he appears to have experience lying deep, out wide and in advanced midfield. Could he be our new Dembele?

Bryan Gil, he may actually be the messiah! With a haircut throwing back to the 70s, a gangly gait which looks awkward to predict, this kid brings pace, flair, skill and vision. As with all young attackers it’s unfair to expect consistency just yet, but I feel like we’ve signed one of those players for whom you get out of your seat not when he’s done something incredible, but beforehand in anticipation of the joy to come.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a fresh crop of young talent to get excited about, and I’m looking forward to seeing all of them personally, but who are we most excited about on SC?

Only time will tell but one from all on the list I would pick Gill. The reason being he potentially is a rare talent, someone who can unlock blanket defences (ie Watford) and produce not only goal scoring opportunities, but also space for others to exploit, something which at the moment is in shorty supply. If he comes off Adama would not be needed, Reggie et al could thrive and Kane and Son would not have to rely on each other for assists. Plus the old spurs supporters were brought up on skill players who entertained which is what it is all about. In my humble opinion.

PS not so sure about Golli. Think we should have gone for Ramsdale when he was at Bournemouth as a young English keeper. Look who has got him now!

Hmm. Not sure about your comment re-Ramsdale. Someone said he's already been relegated twice and from past experience, I wouldn't have too much confidence in their ability to judge goalkeepers, having sold by far their best one to Villa a few seasons ago (Martinez).

Totally agree with you about Gil though for all the reasons you mentioned. This boy will terrorise opposition defences. He's a bit like Moura but with far better ball control.

Gil, in terms of excitement. Tags of "new David Silva" etc never help, but guile and creativity is something we've been sorely lacking since Eriksen left.

I'm extremely pleased with all our incomings, would've liked to add probably two more but it is what it is, this isn't the thread to go into that.

Gil seems to have so much in his locker and on the face of things is probably the most exciting certainly in the medium to long term, but right here right now I think you can definitely make arguments for Emerson and Romero (shame about the potential multiple quarantines this autumn though...) as well.

But Gil, if he really can become a Modric/David Silva with extra pace and trickery, we will have a massive player on our hands.

Probably Gill. I think he has already shown he can place at this level and looks a very exciting youngster.

I hope he can be a starter this season so we don't have to rely on Lucas/Berg who isn't good enough. The same goes with Alli, hope Ndombele get his shit together and man up.

Lloris
Emerson - Romero - Dier - Reggie
PEH - Skipp - Ndombele
Gill - Kane - Son

As for the others.

Romero: Excited to see if he can be our VVD/Dias. The PL in a different animal though.

Emerson: New future RB, excited to see what he brings to our team, which also means we will see little of Doherty which is lovely. I think some alluded to we might switch to 3-4-3 because of him. Only issue I have with that is we might be forced to start with Dier/Sanchez a lot and have faith in them - again. Which they have already shown can't handle.

Gollini: Hope he gets all the CUP/CL games. And hope he still gets them if we go far in a tournament.

that’s right fucker, this thread is meant to be an upper to help people feel happy ?

yeah he’s the obvious choice because of the style of player he is, but in terms of tangible impact he can have on the side the next point is really pertinent.

And the reason this is the pertinent point is that these are the guys that address our biggest deficiencies from last season, and leave us looking far better balanced both in the first team and the squad.

I feel that ever since the Spanish lad we had on loan we have not addressed the problem that one day we have to replace Hugo, and if we had continued our search for potential young talent we might not be in a situation now that we are looking in the bargain basement to buy a replacement who to my knowledge is relatively unknown. Might be wrong

Voted Romero but could have easily gone with Gil or Emerson either.

Main reason for going with Romero was because I can't wait to see what effect he can have on Sanchez/Dier and the others around him. We won't have an issue scoring goals going forward when our style of play settles and the front men sharpen up in front of goal but if we can stop conceding the late goals and not drop silly points from winning positions then we'll be well on the right track.

Gil and Emerson probably will excite more but good teams have good defences. And I good defending.

As per my OP, he’s been part of a truly excellent (and very attacking) Atalanta side for the past three seasons, and is a very clear succession plan for Hugo, perhaps remedying that earlier mistake with Pau Lopez. He’s probably the most established and reliable signing of the lot in my opinion.

I think that’sa great point, he brings more than just his own ability, he should in fact help improve the entire unit. It’s frustrating that he’s having a staggered start to his career with us but thankfully the defence has started well. I expect him to take our defence to a better level.

Gil, but not seen Emerson so could change

Sarr is looking good also. But from the game time Gil has had so far, he looked like he has the creativity and ability to take players on we are missing.

I bow to your greater knowledge on goalkeepers but still wonder that if you wanted a world class goalkeeper, which I hope we do, are we taking a risk on Golli . If he looks that good why has he not been touted by other clubs. Hope I am proved totally wrong in my fears and will eat lots of humble (Kate) pie in the future. Still potentially exciting times ahead.

I certainly have no greater knowledge on GKs, only going on reports and videos like the rest of us with pretty much all these signings, but no signing is a sure thing (Chelsea spent £70m on Kepa right?) and we’re looking for someone to succeed Lloris after a year of bedding in, not replace him immediately as he’s still in the top 3 goalies in the league. As for why no other clubs were in for him, we don’t know that, and that could be used for every signing we ever make that doesn’t end up at a better club, including Lloris a decade ago. Football doesn’t work like that.

I think all of the signings have been excellent and have addressed problem areas. Gill will be most exciting I think, Romero could have the biggest overall impact, Emerson will be a big upgrade in a dodgy area and Sarr could develop into a very special player. Gollini brings a real feel good factor. Also hoping Dane Scarlett get a few run outs in the absence of any backup striker.

Romero for me. I think he is world class already and just needs a small acclimatisation period. He is so quick to react to danger and also so offensive minded. I think he will be incredible.

I voted Romero. Whilst Bryan will be undoubtedly the most exciting to watch, it’s Romero who could have an even bigger impact this season… once he gets his Internationals out of the way and starts a run of games. ?
