If it really does go wrong (god forbid) and we end up getting relegated, who, if any, do you think out of our existing first team squad would stay with us?

I'd suggest Gunter, Dawson, maybe O'Hara  After that it's difficult to imagine too many other than the youth players staying with us, and even then Bostock would probably be off in the blink of an eye.

Gunter would stay. I think Dawson would as well, and probably be captain.
O'Hara as well. Let's face it, Ekotto would stay as long as he's paid.
King might not have any other option but to stay due to his injury issues.
Dervite and Pekhart if promised first team football.
I actually think Zokora might give us one season to see if we can be promoted as well. Rocha? Well he havent left even if he's a reserve player. I'm sure he'd stay as a championship first teamer.

Rest would probably be out the door. Some would hand in transfer requests, Defoe style.

How many would we want to stay?? If we go down it will be through sheer lack of application and mental toughness and not lack of ability. Having seen Burnley play I would suggest that application and mental toughness are exactly what you need to get out of the Championship.
Therefore I'm not sure I'd actually want anyone other than Dawson, Woodgate, King and O'Hara. The rest of them can sod off and take undeserved fortunes from other football clubs.

You know, a couple of victories in the league and we're back in contention for European places.

Its January guys!

They bloody put us there......they should stay and get us back out! I know this is not realistic but it's a bit cheeky to not play brilliantly, get relegated and then think 'Oh....I'm better than this!' and bugger off!

I know, I know! I still think (hope..pray..) we'll be ok, and a month from now this question could be completely irrelevant, but for now its just interesting to see which players we see as either being not good enough to get a game with a premiership side, or being man enough to battle for the good of the club. Can't think of many for the latter though..

dont be blind; it might happen! I remember Lens in French Ligue1 last year. this team was used to be in the top 5 for many years ; 40000 fans every home game ; they had a good team on the paper last year; a bad start, changed trainer , struggled all season, lack of confidence , poor efficiency... down in lower division the last day. Nobody would have bet a penny on that!
the question is also who will the club be able to keep since the budget and incomes are quite different ...so expenses have to be significantly reduced, particularly the salaries... the best players wont accept a salary decrease and the club wont be able to keep them.

I think King would stay. Hudd and Lennon might stay. Defoe would be off like a flash. Defoe is a yiddo, my arse.

it'd mostly be the international guys that will want out, or the ones on the fringe of their national teams. So that would be Lennon, Defoe, Pavlyuchenko, Bent?, Bentley, Jenas. I could see some staying such as Huddlestone and Zokora. Modric would leave.

I think most of the defence would stay, Corluka and Bale would be the ones that may go one way or the other.

it's interesting isn't it? would we have to sell? has a team with such strong finances ever gone down?

Great comment.

Is it no wonder we are where we are your support consists of continually knocking the players and club as a whole , yes we all know they are underachieving but at times like this we need to support the players etc.
I was born in Edmonton and have supported Spurs for 40+ years through thick and mostly thin, if you are looking for a winning team to follow move on we are always a nearly team but I would always support them no matter what happens. That is ''The Joy of being a Spurs Fan''.
Don't knock lets all give support.

Easy we'll just flog Darren Bent to some cash rich premier league club for some ridiculously over inflated price.

wake up mate, a couple of victories? we're joint bottom in january, we have to get the same amount of points we already have again in 16 games, we've not won in 6 games, 5 of those against clubs around us. Our next 3 games are against Stoke, Bolton and Arsenal. We can realistically expect to win 1 of those games (Stoke) now that Bolton have improved. That could very well leave us bottom come mid February. How many teams who were bottom in Feb survive?

People keep saying there's loads of teams around us and that it's so tight etc... but it's been like that all year and STILL we cannot pick up the points to drag us out of this mess. We were beaten by West Brom, Stoke, Hull, Wigan, Sunderland, Middlesbrough.

The fact that it's January shouldn't be a sign of relief, it should definitely be an indication of squeaky bum time.

We'd be looking to get some money back on Modric, Pavlyuchenko, Bent, Bentley and a couple of others. But I think it's the players like Dawson, Bale, Gunter, O'Hara, and possibly the likes of Huddlestone, Lennon, Woodgate and Zokora for one season, depending on whether we get promoted again or not. Whatever happens, it's a re-building mission we could very much do without.

I remember someone else on here saying that most players would have some clause in their contract allowing them to leave if we go down. Wouldn't surprise me.

I know we would get a parachute payment, which will hardly make a dent in the cash we would lose out on, but either way I'd imagine we'd easilly be one of the richest clubs in the championship, not to mention being one of the more attractive championship teams for prospective players.

Having said that, I'm now going to go back to sticking my fingers in my ears, and shouting "la la la, it's all a bad dream...la la la".

Can't believe some of you believe Lennon would stay, he'd run faster out of White Hart Lane than he's ever done inside.
