The answer:

Any player that Berbs would not shout/complain about.

Berbs is right when he complains.

An ex Newcastle footballer (can't remember his name) thought that Beardsley was a terrible passer. Until the manager pulled him aside and told him he was passing to where you were supposed to be running.

Truth is with the coaches we have had in the past: we have proven we can not mold young players.

I am sure Ramos can but his energies need to be focussed on the starting 11.

So we need players who already know what to do without having to be told or coached over 3 seasons like BAE, Kaboom, Prince, Tab etc etc etc etc etc etc.

We need a Carrick. We need a Gareth Barry on the left. We need players that don't run the full length of the pitch with their heads down like Zok/Lennon.

We also need to KEEP BERBATOV!

BTW I don't put Modric in that category. IMO he is similar to Malbs (who is a great little player). But not what we need long term or short term.

We need some brains/athletes in the team. We have enough flash Harry's.

Gibbs, there's so much wrong with that post that I don't even know where to begin.

So who should we sign? Or did I miss the bit that answered the title of the thread?

Or was that Gibbs poorly explaining something again?

I think we need Hughton back.

Well, his clipboard, anyway. It's so embarrassing seeing Gus have to make do with crappy little bits of paper torn from a ring-bound pad.

I have my Insanity Filter on now, BTW.

thats the reason berbs is leaving - he's never forgiven the club for making him wear that stupid hat and having to stand next to zokora's 'younger' brother!

The point at issue is whether understanding between players and movement off the ball are good enough. Probably not, but it has been a coaching priority, and there have been days when opponents have found our movement unplayable. Jol, who wanted to get away from playing a rigid tactical game, certainly saw this as a work in progress, but a youth oriented revolving door transfer policy has not helped.

I do not accept that there has been a coaching problem in the past. Jol, Hughton and Allen are all more than competent coaches.

As for Berbs frustration, well, our most intelligent runner off the ball is Darren Bent, and the two cannot be said to have struck up a telepathic understanding.

surely it's robbie keane whose work rate and movement off the ball is unparalleled (within our squad at any rate).

So you would think Barry and Carrick would be awful for our team?

:bang:

Coincidentally, I was having a conversation with my Dad over dinner tonight about John Snow interviewing politicians on C4 & how he responds to answers by twisting them into a completely disingenuous counter-question...

Which is exactly what you've done there.

Would Carrick or Barry be awful for our team? No, of course not. We know Carrick wouldn't & its reasonable to suggest that Barry wouldn't either. But, as I think you well know, Kendall did not state this as his opinion at all & therein lies the...erm...lie.

I agree with you (as I did, partially at least, in the Modric thread) that we need some class & experience in the middle of the park & that youngsters are, for the moment, not the answer for the first XI.

My issues with your post are twofold: Firstly, you title the thread 'Who we SHOULD sign' & then mostly fail to answer your own question apart from a distinctly vague (oxymoron alert!...:)) exhortation to sign "A Carrick" or "A Barry" rather than specifying actual players, assuming of course that you didn't mean we should actually sign these players. I mean, if you'd said "lets stick in a bid for Barry, £13m's not bad & he'll do the business..." then fine but you didn't.

Secondly, this post somewhat contradicts your critique on THFC's scouts in 'Modric=Rebrov' by suggesting that rather than scouting out hitherto-unknown talents a la Wenger, we should be concentrating on experienced PL players who require no scouting whatsoever. Like Carrick & Barry, for example.

Berba? I'd love him to stay but I doubt he will. It shouldn't be about keeping a player at all costs as this won't bring the best out of either the player or the team.

'Modric=Malbranque' - as I said in that other thread let's wait & see but personally I class myself as a 'glass-half-full' kinda guy.
