Why don't we put Bale up front?

Honestly, he would score bucket loads.

Hes cool in one on one situations, a good left foot and pace. We dont have any striker that can run after a through ball and not get tackled. Bale would stretch any defence leaving VDV some much needed space. HR is crazy not to try it for a few games.

The bit in bold, pot, kettle, black.

Just because it works in FIFA doesn't mean it will work in real life.

We get a thread like this every month, but I'll say what I always say, why play him up front (which he sort of does for wales) when he is so good as a winger.

Although he is special, he is not quite Ronaldo standard. Although I would be certain he could do a great job up top I think he is more effective on the wing providing goals as well as scoring them. We just need to get Crouch and Defoe firing and then order will be restored....

Perhaps it's been tried in training and found to be less effective. Bale is currently scoring from LW, the problem is Defoe, Pav and Crouch not scoring enough. I'd rather see us keep Bale as a supplier and scorer of goals on the left and try to figure out an effective partnership and system from players who are used to playing there than mess about too much with players out of position.

He plays wide striker for Wales at times so it has been done and he can do it.... but IMO he would be wasted, LM gives him more room to run that if he was up frount

I honestly believe Bale would be an amazing centre midfielder of the attacking variety. His engine, pace, technique and everything else gives him along with his physique, all the attributes to be a serious attacking midfielder in the mould of Steven Gerrard (but potentially better).

I refer the honourable member to my posts of 2009 that I can see him eventually moving into the more central role, look what Modric does, could he do that, you betcha, look at what Gerrad does could he do that better you betcha.
It's an option anyway.

I've often wondered why some midfielders don't ever have more of a go upfront, as I always thought Jenas would be good up there with his good touch and acceleration, but that's just my madness talking!

Back to Bale, I don't think it would be an awful idea and sure, he'd definitely score goals, but on the minus side, he'd be wasted standing around the penalty box, waiting for something to happen, we'd lose his running and the ability to stretch teams the way we do when we play him now. Defenders would only have to worry about him over 10 or 20 metres rather than the whole pitch.

Not a bad shout, but I think we'd miss more than we'd gain.
