If they don’t play him in friendlies, which tend to be as physical as a child’s ball pit, then they might as well not train him either as pre season training is far more intense and likely to cause injury than a kick about with players who are under instruction not to do anything silly. It is entirely possible that @Hercules info is correct and Zaha would still play, anyone saying otherwise is just looking for reasons to be negative.

Unless Zaha wants to stay at palace he wouldn’t of played that game if a fee has been agreed. Why would palace play him in a preparation game for the upcoming season if they know he’s not going to be with them? Makes no sense to me

Herc said he has not even spoken officially with us yet so transfer has some way to go!

I’m not saying a deal is anywhere near done but i would of thought if clubs have agreed a fee the next step is to start negotiating contracts with the player. So i highly doubt he would be playing in a pre season friendly if he has permission to speak to us/Chelsea.

I would guess that the fee is probably agreed in rough terms only - eg about x including add ons. Just enough detail to make it worthwhile for them to agree that we can try to make a deal with zahain preparation for a quick move once palace have lined up replacements and settled on a final deal. Gives all parties some leverage on the final deal (even possibly trying to change the fee) and palace always have the option of keeping him and wearing some extra wages for one more season by going ahead with at least some of the replacements.

No papers are saying we are even in for him. Surely they’d of got wind of it? Agents are hardly likely to keep it quiet if we are in for him.

I'm not sure if you just haven't seen it, but the mail, mirror, sun, standard, and times have all linked us to him in the past 2 weeks, and the guardian and telegraph were both reporting our interest about a month ago

EDIT: unless you're talking about the fee being accepted of course, then you're correct

But that's a debate for another thread.....

If a fee has been agreed with Palace, I can't see how it would make any sense for Zaha to play in a friendly. If the clubs were negotiating, yes, it would send a message to the interested party that they weren't going to be pushed around but not if the player was already free to negotiate with the club that had agreed a fee.

We often hear that the fee is the last thing to be agreed. Therefore there is no way it can be, else the deal will be done. The fact he played today would say it’s nowhere near that stage for any team in for him.
