The longer this goes without ANY press reporting even talks happening, let alone the accepted bids, the more sceptical I am about any truth in this at all.

And despite all summer there being barely any information about our targets other than slitherings, Levy is out letting the assistant manager of our main rival know who we've bid for.
When you put it like that...

Steve Nicol has spoken, doesn't think Zaha will join us because of what happened with his Man United move - honestly it's so ridiculous you almost have to read.

My concern now is us getting any quality transfer across the line with the time left. I don't for a second believe United will let Martial join an English club, and I'm worried about Chelsea gazumping us for Zaha. I'm not sure where we turn after that.

I know we like to leave things late but with less than 2 weeks to go the only solid leads we have are Grealish and Martial, and there clubs are seemingly telling us to do one.

Steve Nicol has the be the worst pundit around and that’s saying something. He has the attitude that only the big sides matter

An ITK said that Man U have a 25% sell on clause with Zaha and Palace clearly need to sell. Surely a more prudent approach to agreeing a deal at around £60m, let's just say is to do a player swap so that you don't miss out on over £15m to invest further.

Carter-Vickers, Sissoko, Nkoudou, Janssen, Edwards, Llorente for Zaha or £60m- £15m gives them £45m. I can't see where they'd get a better crop of players for £45m than we could give them in theory so they don't have to swallow a quarter of the fee to Man United.

It makes sense to me, but then again I have had about 8 pints tonight
Have the Palace fans stopped laughing yet?

Players swaps involve valuing the players as they're assets to the clubs. You can't cheat United that easily. Agents will also want their cut of the deal. The logistics would also be mind boggling.

If Willian to Utd is on, then that definitely is likely to release Martial's availability. Be that to Chelsea or us, it remains to be seen. Ultimately we want one of Martial or Zaha, allegedly so do Chelsea, so long as we end up with one each, I'm not too concerned which, as either would be an astute addition, giving us greater depth and variety in our squad.

Going back slightly, looking at the comparison of stats, with Zaha I can't help but agree, slinging balls into Kane instead Benteke would really shift his figures upwards. Equally, and I know it's only early preseason, but Llorente seems to have found some form and understanding with his teammates, if we can't shift him, he may yet offer what we expected him to last year. Same can be said for a number of players, Aurier, Moura, even Lamela, a full preseason should see an upturn in what they bring.

If Man U get Willian and Zaha goes to Chelsea, a swap deal involving Martial to Spurs and Toby to Man U would set Jose up far better than if he and Man U dog their heels in regarding Martial.

They'd have a pretty impressive nucleus with De Gea, Alderweireld, Matic, Pogba, Sanchez, Willian & Lukaku then, along with all the others

Chelsea IMO won’t sell Willian to Man United unless they sell Martial to them. They have no need to sell Willian so they like us with Toby they can afford to be difficult with Man United.

That's my thinking. Martial / Willian swap, leaving us a clear run at Zaha. Toby stays.

Yet they lost out to Liverpool on oxlaid chamberlain because they didn’t want to pay the agents fees on that one. So they don’t always pay them.

True, but Liverpool outspent everyone on agent's fees last year.

Chelsea still spent five times what we did on agent's fees in that period, which puts into perspective how far away we are from being able to compete with our rivals financially.

Martial/Willian swap is awful business by United. The media are touting a £60m-£70m fee as well which is probably even worse considering he's 30 in just over a week and relies a fair bit on his pace/acceleration.

I'd be annoyed if Chelsea got that much for him.
