I don't completely disagree but we're more experienced and a better team than we were last year.

Trying to remember last time with Harry. Seem to remember thinking that the main reason we were good was bale, who had no experience.

Our main problem will be getting used to Wembley. Had we played at the lane last year we wouldn't be having this debate imho.

On one level he's right, we haven't much CL experience, but on another he's talking crap, we've tonnes of internationals with massive amounts of top flight games under their belts. Lloris, Verts, Toby, Dembele, Eriksen, Walker and Rose are all experienced internationals.

I see what he means, but we have squad full of determined individuals who would want to make sure they give a better account of themselves in Europe this season.

They will know full well they didn't perform how they should and could have done, so I am convinced they will want to put it right this season. Poch knows this too and will do everything he can to make sure we perform better this season.

Think he's right (That quote up top isn't the full quote) even if Monaco just showed that up

And his answer to a question.- he clearly didn't bring it up - for those who haven't read the full thing seems perfectly reasonable

Weren't Monaco even less experienced than we were though?

The simple fact is, when we were playing in the Champions League, we were also playing pretty poorly in the league as well, if we were had been playing like we were at the end of the season, we would have topped the group.

We needed more experience vs the equally young and inexperienced Monaco team? Ok...

Our team may lack a little on CL experience, but the majority are well versed in huge domestic fixtures and international tournaments.

You could easily argue that had we been playing CL games at WHL we would have qualified. Considering we did not a lose a single game there all season.

Wembley was as big, if not more of a factor in our CL failure than experience.

Gallas is a top man, he praised us as well as hoping that we will do well next year in all competitions including Champions league.

Only read the headline but it's Poch and the team who need to learn fast.

Not just CL, our record in Europe is poor, losing to inferior teams in group or two leg contests.

We give away silly fouls, silly yellows, need to counter better away from home and need to time waste more like everyone else does when our noses are in front.

We have conceded poor goals like v the Belgians last year, something we've cut out in domestic matches. Didn't look like we'd done our homework on the threats. A six ft five CB coming forward for a corner is a pretty fkin obvious threat...

Full quotes on CL:

"It was a big shame what happened to them last season but this Tottenham squad is a little too young for the Champions League. Against Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen in the group games, it showed that they needed more experience.

“The Champions League is different to the Premier League. You need experience, you need to be more clever and stay focussed. If you compare our squad back then with now, we had many older and more experienced players. Hopefully, they will have learned from last season’s experience - and be better for it.

On finishing above Arsenal:

“They had gone very close the previous season - and lost out to Arsenal on the last day. Maybe they learned from their mistakes this time.”

Very clear he's talking about last season's campaign, very misleading headline. And actually what he says is more consistent with thinking we'll get better next year. If anything, he's defending the side.

As for Monaco not having experience - Falcao's won the Europa League twice, Moutinho once. Yes they've got an amazing crop of youngsters but they've got a couple of old heads too.

Our boys need to learn how to play in Europe.

So many times in each of the European games last season we conceded cheap fouls, cheap cards, etc. We've got to learn how to do the same and win the cheap fouls, especially high up the pitch. Gent did it extremely well in the latter part of the game at Wembley in February.

If we can do that we can progress well in Europe this season. We're certainly good enough on a footballing level. Just need to learn that extra gamesmanship level.

Is he? Didn't he bottle his mrs into a hedge or something?

In any event that may be me misremembering or here say or something. I'd forgotten he even played for us tbh, was wondering why he had something to say & then remembered :/

Half the people are responding to the headline. Perhaps if they actually read what he said they would delete the bullshit they wrote. He is quite succinct in what he wrote, has been spot on with his view and makes sense from his experience playing CL football. He played well for us and was a fucking rock against Yanited away when we won their for the first time is fucking years.

I think he's got a point. Let's see how we do this season before we start calling him an idiot.
