willian fined by club and will stay for remainder of contract - will not be tempted by meagre offer of 20m by tottenham, so will not sell, and will deter any future players to try the same ploy. (UKR news channel reporting willian arrival at team hotel in dubai)

bet this deal is on the cards

Fine, make it clear to Willian he is welcome here with open arms. see out your contract like they said and move on a free, simples. The the meager 20m offered by Tottenham will seem like a city of gold.

Why has he started tweeting in English.......

"Goodnight to everyone. God is in control. Thank The Lord for honouring me in the important moments"

Willian for me would be a master stroke in our attempt to lock down a top four finish. Can play right across the top three and is highly unpredictable for a defender, can score and pass with the best of them and most importantly he can take on defenders. Bale, Holtby and Willian... That's something special!

But, like Sneijder and LD its just not going to happen. Not now or in the summer, if it where a possibility it would of happened already. Sneijder was the only big name we might have had a chance at On Deadline day but that chicken has flown.

Where is Willian supposed to play if we buy him? As a #10 or on the right wing? I can't see Lennon being dropped the way he plays at the moment, and I don't see Willian as the most typical #10 either. I may be wrong though, I haven't seen him that much.

Willian would likely play in the number ten role and I think our 3 behind the striker would become exceptionally fluid.

Would really like a finisher in the squad though. Defoe is our only one and is hardly top drawer in that respect.

Anyways, good luck to those of you still holding out hope on this one.

Watching Chelsea in the first half yesterday, it would be lovely to have a three behind the striker like that. We just need a Ba to play up front as well.

IMO Lennon has been exceptional this season. Had we have levelled before the drips on Sky Sports gave MOTM to Carrick Lennon would have by far and away deserved it. He tore United a new hole. Over and over yesterday.

He really has upped his game this season. If he could add 10 goals a season he'd be invaluable.

Spot on, with Lennon's current form RW is toward the bottom of the list of positions that need be strengthened in order to push for top 4, IMO.

Willian seems like one for the summer for me, especially considering that his contract is up in 2014 and his value will have decreased. Another factor that I think will play a role is that he hasn't gotten much of a look in to the national team due largely to playing in Ukraine. We've already seen that he is willing to protest to get a move, and with next season being his last chance to get into the WC team the issue should get attention in the Brazilian media.

Shakhtar's chairman would be downright foolish to hold out for some astronomical fee with 12 months left on the player's contract since it could really make young Brazilians perceive the club as being a place that can stymie one's career aspirations.

He is a typical #10 but is just as capable when playing on the right. He moves all over the shop and would give us something different if chosen over Lennon. Bale with pace and directness on the left and movement and vision from Willian on the right.

He'd be our Mata.

Exceptional player.

This will not happen during Jan. Shaktar don't need the money and he won't start losing value until after the summer.

AvB wants William. Yay, DL wants a deal, yay! Oh, wait these appear mutually exclusive

AVB can propose marriage to Willian if he wants. DL isn't going to drop £20m+ on him.

I think Levy is going to call Shakhtar back this week with one final inquiry. If Willian is still sulking about, and the directors are starting to worry about his upcoming contract saga (as he only has 18 mos remaining) affecting his play and the team, they might give us a more reasonable quote than before, and if Levy thinks he can get Willian for less than he is actually worth I can see him pulling the trigger. Somewhere around £15-16m I think we would be happy to do the deal. But the chances of this are admittedly pretty low...

Willian can undoubtedly play as a #10 but if we move to a 4-3-3, Holtby (providing he signs) will play with Dembele and Parker more often than not. Willian doesn't have the disciple to play in the midfield of a 4-3-3 and if we go 4-2-3-1 then he will be more of a threat coming inside than he will from the number 10 role where the emphasis will be for him to bring the lone striker and 2 wingers into the game.

I just don't think we would splash 20m on him right now. Much more likely in the summer, but even then I think that would be contingent upon Bale leaving.

As for others who have stated he's only a wide player, that's not true. In his matches in the CL against Juventus and Njordsaelland he came inside and played there for longs periods of time. They have Costa, Texeira, and Ilsinho playing wide often, and if it weren't for their uber-talented CAM Mkhitaryan he would probably play there more.

He was fantastic playing inside in those matches, absolutely superb.

I think this might be pretty accurate. Leave it till Wednesday, call on the off chance and if it looks like a goer then try and get it done.
I do agree that the chances of it panning out are pretty slim...
