The only thing Jenas doesn't have is a winning mentality. If he did he'd be Viera Mk2. For a handful of games after Ramos arrived I thought he'd started to squeeze it out of Jenas but it seems to have disapeared again. Maybe because he's read the stories that he's to be offloaded. Who knows.

The only players I think we have at the moment with that true winning mentality (what I define as winning mentality is, ironically, players that hate to loose) and decent ability are possibly Hutton, Malbranque, Berbatov and King. But King does have a tendancy to be a bit too nice sometimes. I think Woodgate may be worthy of inclusion. But we don't have any natural leaders (Hutton ?) or any real nasty bastards. Keane could have made the list but (as he again displayed yesterday) he is ultimately a bottler who has no intention of getting anywhere near the pain barrier for the teams cause.
Zokora is probably next closest to having both attributes. Lennon also. Jenas has ability and effort but just falls short on that nasty hate to loose thing. I canot fault Dawsons courage or effort but he falls way short on ability obviously.

I think if we could find a leader it would probably benefit those around him and bring out the best in them, just as Davids did.

Worrying then, that most people yesterday who I was near were rating Dawson (and Hutton) as our MOMs.

Very worrying indeed.

The only players who should be guaranteed a place in the squad next season are...

Hutton
Bale
Woodgate
King
Keane
Berbatov (who will probably leave anyway)

Everyone else has four games to show Ramos what they are made of or else their Spurs careers will very much be in the balance over the Summer.

I'm not saying we'll get rid of all the others (obviously) but they will certainly be at risk of going if the right offer comes in.

I have to doubt that up until the last transfer window there was any psychological profile made of transfer targets....the annointed DC had it under 'compleat'(sori) control. Was the arrival of Woodgate and Hutton just coincidental?

No doubt there is a squad of psychologists involved at the lodge...unfortunately i suspect they spend more time plugging leaks in porous personalities than instilling a winning squad mentality. The realisation that most of the squad don't have the wherewithal to comprehend the process, or willingness to engage it are likely compounding issues. The purchase of a genuine on field leader may circumnavigate the problem...frighten/cajole/order them, just stop asking for self awareness from planks.

From my perspective the old adage of 'as above, so below' rings so true for our club. We appear almost completely avoidant of personality types which might question, defy(losing), or fight(ie leaders)? And overrun with shrinking violets who are conflict avoidant and devoid of the ability to own a problem.

B-C.....good post.

Indeed. If I were you I would be using the season ticket transfer slip in this summers renewal pack.
